What's causing my adapters to blow?

Two adapters in one week. I thought at first it was our puppy because she also thought my 15' LiveWire was too long. But now I'm thinking I have an FX pedal that is making them quit. Is this possible? The only other thing I can think of is age. I did buy them both around the same time more than ten years ago. One in an Ibanez the other is a Radio Shack. Any ideas?

Adapters blow when they are unable to supply the necessary current.

You must match the voltage and the polarity, but you can have much more, even ridiculously more, but never less, mA.

Also note that Adapters made for musical instuments are usually well filtered for noise, while many no-name cheapos aren't.

Some pedals use ridiculous amounts of juice. Make sure your power supply can feed it. I've been using the same 1-Spot and Boss adapter for years, no probs. The newest 1-Spots can do 1700mA. That should power about any pedalboard.

Yes, make sure you have a sufficient milli-amp supply. The effects will only take what they need. You don't want to be caught short of mA's, which is where you will have problems.

Thanks for your help. Both effects I had plugged in have the negative center pole and both are 9V. The adapter was Ibanez 600mA. The effects are MXR Badass Custom Modified O.D. and an old Ibanez ADL Delay (I believe the same circuit as the pink newer model). Neither have the mA requirements printed on them. How do I know what they are drawing? Thanks again for your help.

The Godlyke Poweral supplies 2000mA. I've been using the older version for about 10 years to power 9 pedals. No problems so far.

600 mA is a decent amount of current which I would think can easily supply two pedals. Look up the specs on them to be sure. I always like to test my power supplies with a voltmeter. They can go bad, especially with age.

That's why I thought one of these pedals may be bad. One is new and one is old. The OD is new and under warranty. I'm going to get a GodLyke and see if it blows, I guess.
