Cheap Trick and Aerosmith last night in KC...

Cheap Trick opened and was great. Rick sounded great on all his humbuckered Hamers, including an interesting one that looked like a burst LP with an Explorer/Standard headstock.

The entire band was very energetic and Tom sounded KILLER on the 12 string bass. Robin played well too. Brad Whitford guested on Ain't That A Shame. I haven't seen them live since the Dream Police tour in 1980. They were fantastic both times. The only thing missing was Clock Strikes Ten. California Man was a highlight as was, believe it or not, The Flame. Edit to add....Need Your Love was simply awesome....my fav tune from Budokan and they rocked it hard. Robin had a mic stand malfunction...the base came off or broke somehow...and he invited a woman he went to school with up onstage to help fix it...it was funny.

Aerosmith was incredible. Highlights were Combination, Dude Looks Like A Lady, Come Together, and Walk This Way when Tyler brought a kid up onstage to do the Run DMC walk with him. Very cool.

They played half the first album (!), nothing from Get Your Wings, 3 from Toys, 2 from Rocks, nothing from Draw The Line, Ruts, Hard Place, or Done With Mirrors. 2 from Vacation, 2 from Pump, Jaded, and my 2 favs from the new album.

Guitars were Strats and LPs pretty much. Brad played Last Child on a Strat after a killer solo spot....I had never seen him use anything other than an LP on that song before.

Perry played his old Telerat from the JPP days on the closer, Sweet Emotion. VERY cool.

Joe Perry, though not as good a player as Brad, was my inspiration to play back in '78. He exudes cool as a player and watching him play reminds me of why I continue to play live. He remains my biggest inspiration.

A GREAT show. The entire band was into it and Tyler remains the consummate showman.

Only disappointments were: Train Kept a Rollin' wasn't played and nothing from Wings.

Just felt like sharing.

As with Rush, there are so many songs you want to hear, but the band has their own ideas of what they want to play.

You still describe the concert as a great show, so missing some of your favorites balanced out with the other songs. What is cool is that you saw Brad jam with Cheap Trick.

Wow, you've seen them both on one evening and I haven't seen even one of them in my whole life. Although I listen to both for decades. Should I move to your country?

If you ever do come over here to visit the USA you will have friends spread out across the country who can help you find whatever you want.

It really was cool to see two favs on the same ticket.....Brad looked like he REALLY enjoyed jamming with CT....at the end of the tune where all the band members take mini-solos, they included Brad...I thought that was classy as to me, that is a signature part of the song.

I am still flying high from that show.

Aero opened with Mama Kin....love that song!

I'm going to see them tonight. And like you, as soon as I saw Joe Perry, low strapped Bich, and cigarette dangling from his lips, I knew I wanted to play guitar, he just looked COOL. And as soon as I saw Angus Young... forget about it, I was hooked!

Thats sacrilegious bullsh!t.

GYW is one third of the Holy Aerosmith Trinity canon. And DTL pulls a big nada, for the show?!

Sounds like Smiff needs a good talking to.

Oh yeah ... sounds like a RAWKING good time! I'd still like to catch the show.

2 awesome bands on the same bill. thumb-up-emoticon.gif
