tommy p Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Congrats! I loved the look of that one. I was tempted myself but I already have one like it except with crowns instead of Victories. Oh, and a Zandard. It would have been an impulse "OMG! I'll never get this chance again!" for me and I would never have played all 3 enough to justify it.
Spike Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Congrats! Hope you love it. I find it helpful to post a PSA when I find something tempts me. Get other people to buy and live vicariously through them. Haven't yet found a perfect solution for what to do when someone else posts something good on the forum. I guess just hold out as long as possible and hope someone like you pulls the trigger first Ah. so that's the strategy. Nice. I'll have to remember that. Damn. I should have known all along that it was a setup. BTW, in an earlier post, you asked about the slim neck. I had the same question and I just heard back from the seller. He said the neck is "very slim" so that's good news (hopefully) for me.
Spike Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Whoever snagged it, thank you for saving me from myself! Er, yeah, that would be me. I just couldn't pass it up. Now I'm wondering who's going to save me from myself. I sure as sh*t hope I don't live in a world where "bought a badass guitar" falls into the "needs saving" camp. Congrats on the new guitar, and welcome to the HFC! LOL! Good point. And thanks for the welcome! Glad to be here. This is really a great forum.
Spike Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Well this should be a fine replacement. It was a great purchase, with a great top and some character. If it helps you I play my 97 Standard way more than my 4 Digit. The Standard is well The Standard so enjoy! Thanks. Yeah, the quilty goodness was hard to pass up but it was the "60's style slim neck" that really sucked me in. Most of the Standards that I have come across in my searches seem to have medium C necks which I'm afraid will be a bit too large for me. And since I'm buying it to play, not to look at, a slim neck is a must.
Spike Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 The guitar has the bound headstock. It could possibly be a chambered one. There was no serial number given, was it? Forgot about to add: Congrats! It has a very nice top. ... and welcome btw. I asked the buyer to send me the S/N so hopefully I'll know tomorrow. The year is less important to me than the neck size. Thanks for the welcome!
Spike Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Hey, if it doesn't 'work-out', you can always count on someone around here wanting to take it off your hands without those pesky ebay fees.... I kind of figured that. Or perhaps I could work out a trade for a pencil-necked Standard.
Montelovesco Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Irks! Those guitars NEVER show up here. Or I miss them. So: Congratulations from Germany...

Oh, and a Zandard. It would have been an impulse "OMG! I'll never get this chance again!" for me and I would never have played all 3 enough to justify it. I must admit, I actually like the crowns better than the Victories but hey, I'm not complaining. I was just happy to find a Standard that might possibly work for me. And I know what you mean by hating to pass up an opportunity. I *almost* pulled the trigger on formula73's 1981 Dean ML Standard last night. I recently bought one just like it in black and it's one of the few necks that works for me. But I managed to reign myself in by telling myself that I already have one and, well, I can't play them both at the same time anyway. Ah, but I was soooo close...whoever scored that one (I believe it was Hamer Dave) is in for a real treat. That's one nice guitar.

Ted Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Another Congrats to you Spike, and another Bienvenido to The HFC!!!
Spike Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 My guess is a 2008 model? If yes, then chambered. You, sir, are spot on. The S/N is 856032 (at least, I think that's what he said) so yes, that would make it a 2008. I figured it was in the 2007/2008 range but the exact year doesn't really matter all that much to me. Due to my wrist issues, neck size is the most important factor.
Spike Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Another Congrats to you Spike, and another Bienvenido to The HFC!!! Thanks Ted! I can't wait to get the guitar but, more importantly, this forum never ceases to impress me. I'm really happy to be here!

Click on the error message in the signature. I've removed the Schaller trem since. It's back to the original TOM bla bridge.
