String Resonance Problem

OK, this is the damndest thing I've ever dealt with on a guitar. On my Hamer studio, whenever I lift a finger off the D string, it continues to resonate open. It is bad enough that it is really making playing clean difficult. Every time I run up a scale, even after I lift a finger off the D and move to a higher or lower string, it rings open. Out of the 13 or so guitars I own, this is the only one that does it. Has anyone had a similar issue? Any suggestions (besides the hair tie trick... good lord, not that!)

If it's resonating behind the nut, a small piece of foam right behind the nut under the strings works wonders. If it's in front, ... I don't know what to tell you other than to work on your right and left hand muting techniques. I mean, it's sort of just doing its job over there. ;)

I should never (ever) be allowed to post in the experts section, but my guess is the nut slot is too low.

Edited to add that you might have a jiggly string agitator installed. Check for that.

I'm just going to have to learn to mute the strings a little more aggressively on this guitar. I've experimented a little today, and I already naturally mute the strings after 20 years or so of playing, this one in particular just needs a little different touch. That and I will eat raw bacon before playing it from now on so my hands are nice and greasy :-p

I just wanted to check if anyone else had ever had the issue and it ended up being setup related. I agree that it is just doing its job, basically. I was frustrated but also rather amused that the guitar is just that resonate.
