specialk Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 So I bought a new acoustic this week. Got a great deal on it so I don't want to spend a bunch on a stand. It has a nitro-based finish. Anyone know of a cheap stand that's safe for this?
sixesandsevens Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The stand might well outlast most of the guitars in your collection, so it may be worth thinking of it as a budding partnership... You buy guitars so it won't float away. That aside, plain cotton rags provide a nice buffer between whatever stand you already have and the guitar. Something like an old cotton or wool ski hat would probably make a fair "sock" to put over the part that holds the neck. Not pretty, but cheap.
Bloozguy Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I use the Ultimate Support GS-100. They're around $30 and use nitro-friendly materials wherever they contact the guitar.

I got plenty of rags/socks/hats for buffers, and I'm way past the point of needing to impress anyone. Got a shock. I priced a Hercules stand. They were never cheap, but they sure have gotten spendy since I last bought one. Thanks, s&s.
Feynman Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 If you PM me a shipping address, I have a Hercules begging for a new home. I would feel grateful for the opportunity to be rid of it.

MCChris Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 As someone else who's interested in their stands, I gotta ask ... Why are you're grateful to be rid of it?Because he feels obligated to put a guitar in it.
Feynman Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Exactly. It sits here, mocks me, begs to be used...it's a damn nice stand. I buy the GS455B, as they will hold skinny little necks all the way up to my ridiculous classical neck. A fantastic design - highly recommended.I went through a "two guitar" phase for awhile, but I realized recently that one guitar is my happy spot. So, I have an extra stand. Well, i did, but now it will host SpecialK's new love.
