bcsride Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Better not take too much longer, the pyramids were put up in less time, and with less anticipationYeah, but the Egyptians were hacks compared to the Hamer shop.
Ting Ho Dung Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I remembering making a "hot" girl irate when I jokingly said to a buddy I wouldn't rate her. She was rate worthy on paper but had a very nasty personality. Threw her drinking glass at my face. I don't know how she missed, my head has its own gravitational pull. I rate this SS an 8.I pissed off a bartender in The Keys by calling her sweetie. I said something like, "Thanks Sweetie... or Sweetheart." I think it may have been Key West but can't say for sure. I don't remember how I got there. But I do have a picture of her shooting me a bird.
Bobby Marshall Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Thorn, you have to post that one. I can't wait to see what love Jay and/or Stike give this Hamer.
diablo175 Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Uh, Thorn, if it was Key West, particularly Duvall St., (s)he may have looked like a woman but... well, let's just say there are a lot of drag queens down there....
carfish7 Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 If you decide to replace the pickups, I'm probably interested in the originals slammer SC and HB . Looks like a replacement neck SC. I feel like a vulture, but I can guess that the mods will be on the extensive side!!,I thought the SS Custom had crowns AND Duncans stock??That guitar was well-loved.........in an awesome kinda way.
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I think that the std pickups changed about 88/89 ish from Slammers to SDs, something like that... If 'Custom'designation is based on Crowns and Ebony as the main criteria, I think the pickups between std and Custom versions were the same. If you look at the close up of this guitar on page one, the middle pickup looks like a slammer with the hook up wires coming off the end of the coil, the neck pickup coming off the middle of the coil. Based on it being the age it is, I reckon that the neck unit was swapped out from a slammer to something else at some point. My 90 has SDs, and the 2 80s ones I have 86, and 88 both have Slammers. I have a 88 Cali with boomers and a maple body that came with a Slammer SC (bridge pickup sadly missing - hence my interest above ) I don't know for a fact but this was the basis of my assertion ( hope I'm not going to be unhooked as being very wrong!)
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I think one of the old boys can answer this one properly
Bennyboy-UK Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Actually the term custom for pre 90 SSs might not be strictly correct, looks like fingerboard and inlays were all options to select during the order process. Custom seems to be mentioned in the later catalogues, so maybe at that point there became a more standardised spec for 'Standard' and 'Custom', and from that point the terminology was possibly applied to SS guitars from the 80s retrospectively. Does that make sense, or even, is that right?
