Never2Late Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 No Affiliation. This Un-played Unicorn, with Stadium Logo, at this price, is a STEAL, IMHO:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hamer-Eclipse-Electric-Guitar-Made-in-USA/171053503594?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D8234704384528150137%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D111088328593%26If I didn't find my own 'new' unplayed guitar recently, I would buy this, no-questions.
BubbaVO Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I've been watching that one too. My laptop just crapped out and I'd be sure to incur the wrath of she who must be obeyed. But that black Eclipse is pretty flippin' awesome.
Ting Ho Dung Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I saw that yesterday. I didn't realize that was a Stadium logo though.
Never2Late Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 It's the "BIGGER" one for that style of headstock....was there one bigger?
therefore Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Hey guys. I'm the one who bought this one. I'll let you know how it turns out. As per my other post a ltitle while ago I may try and do a pickup swap. Then again this may be one not to mess with. Will see.
crunchee Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 It's the "BIGGER" one for that style of headstock....was there one bigger? Oh yes. The early '90's version of this (AKA "Sunburst Archtop" model) had a Hamer logo that was even bigger than this one. The ones on shredders, and AFAIK practically any Hamer in the late '80's, had the "Stadium" sized logo. Others here at the HFC are more familiar about them than I am. That particular sized Hamer logo on the black Eclipse (which I think was used from '92 or '93, until '97 or so) is my fave...nicely proportioned for the headstock, not too big, not too small, just right IMO.
therefore Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 OK So I received this "new" Hamer and guess what - yes it's like new. Perfect. Kind of amazing considering it is eBay. Most guitars I've bough on ebay, including a 12 string Eclipse recently, had unpleasant surprises like damage or wear not mentioned in the listing. This one was exactly as shown, and even looks better in person.I've been complaining about the pickups in the Eclipse 12 in another post but in this, my first 6 string Eclipse, they sound fine at first listen - something like the phat cats. I'll test and listen more later.Been wanting a 6 string Eclipse and don't think I could have done better than this!
Disturber Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Congrats! I've had mine since January and I love it. It has a really sweet neck profile too.The lower you set the pickups the more wood you dial in to the tone. It took a while for me to find a good balance between the neck and the bridge. If the tone control is not to your satisfaction try the Murkat mod, mentioned in your other thread. My tone control works just great as is.The original Duncan SM2 and SM3 pickups in my Eclipse are wound by Marcela Jurarez. I guess that the fact that they are now almost 20 years old contribute to that they are slightly microphonic. They sound and feel very much like custom wound pups. They don't have any of that compressed feeling of the ordinary Duncan humbuckers. These are open and airy, almost like they are un-potted (like their Antiquity Firebird pups). Just great pickups with a flavour of their own.Duncan call the SM2 a "higher output" pup, but I don't feel they are hot at all. It is just a good thing as they can be set further from the strings and still don't sound weak. When set further from the strings the treble becomes softer, the bass a little looser, and they get a more vintage type of response.
