I'm shopping for some speakers for my old '83 Fender Concert 4X10 open-back combo amp, to replace the kinda tired original Fender Eminence-made originals. I'm looking for speakers with good bass and midrange-handling capabilities, that aren't too bright-sounding (this amp can already get plenty bright), and crunch more than "fuzz", whatever that means on the Jensen descriptions. I'm looking for recommendations on new speakers that'll be under US$200 shipped for a set of four. That should narrow down my choices significantly.
Currently, I'm looking at either the Jensen Mod 10-35, Jensen Mod 10-50, or Jensen Jet Falcon 10. I like the sound of the Jensen Jet Electric Lightning 10 in the Jensen demos, but unfortunately four of them is kinda out of my price range. I'm open to suggestions, but I'm not a huge fan of Eminence or Celestion, and anything boutiquey like Tone Tubby is kinda out of my price range. Good sound and durability trumps "vintageness" for this particular amp, so I'm not really looking at reissue type speakers as such, and I'm not looking to buy used either unless it's something that I can't resist. My old Fender Concert puts out a LOUD signal, it's rated for 60 watts but it sounds louder than that when cranked (I have a '80's Fender Concert 1x12 also that I can use for comparison).
