carfish7 Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Does anyone know with certainty if the two share common body dimensions? I am looking to get a replacement PG somehow for this and am wondering if a T-62 guard would fit the scaled-down Vintage S body?
Andrew Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Yes, very much the same. But I would NEVER put a guard on a Vintage S as it wasn't designed to carry one. But I guess you got yours with it already fitted. The real problem is that the screw holes will be in all the wrong places from the 'user-fitted' guard and also any fading may become noticeable as the T62 guard looks to be smaller than the one in the above photo. The third knob may present a problem as well. The T62 has a cavity under the guard for the electronics, which is unnecessary as it also has a back cavity.
G Man Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 For a sure fit, I would send it to one of the pickguard makers out there who will do custom work. Here's a couple of links:http://www.pickguards.com/http://www.terrapinguitars.com/index2_php.php?content=guitarContent
carfish7 Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 My Vintage S has a cavity too......rather, there was an "extraction" of sorts.
Caddie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Never let a guitar tech work on your guitar if he has a Swiss Army Knife hanging from his belt. They're always looking for an opportunity to use it. Remove planter's warts, install a new stereo in your car, remove excess earwax. "Yup, I can do it all with my Swiss Army Knife." Do the Swiss have an army? I thought they were always neutral.Swiss Army Knife. Can it core a apple? Zip, zip, zip.Ho yeah. C-c-c-core a apple. (Ralph Kramden n Ed Norton)Somebody out there in Hamerville is gonna know what that means n get a chuckle out of it.caddie
e-isle rock Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 You have to get a Fender pickguard for that. The pickguard that is on it is from Pickguard Heaven/Chandler's Music. You will need to send the pickguard that is on the guitar to them so that they can trace all the cutouts and holes. They have a bunch of styles and colors to choose from. I was not the person who did that to that beautiful guitar BTW. It was my first USA Hamer and I had no idea what I was buying and didn't know they didn't come with pickguards. I just remember playing a Vintage S decades before in a store and loved it, so I bought that one off Ebay when I saw it not realizing it was a hack job. It was also my first Ebay purchase. Live and learn.
Andrew Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Ouch, indeed! If you use a T62 guard that hacked out cavity will show. Look at the picture of the T62 and you will see the guard isn't parallel with the edge at that point, it sweeps in somewhat.
