zorrow Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Is there any good way to remove hiss from a master .wav file that otherwise sounds great? Any VST pluggin you'd recommend or software that would auto-detect hiss and remove it?TIA!
zorrow Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 BTW, I'm also open to outsourcing the dehissing of my files to a competent service provider. For example, I've heard marvels about the CEDAR bureau service, but couldn't find any info about that on their site. Any known third party offering a good audio restoration service then?
alantig Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I've used Cool Edit 2000 for this - their noise reduction plug-in has a function that will sample noise in a selection and use that to remove the noise. Plus you can adjust how aggressively it removes it. CE2K has morphed into Adobe Audition, but I never upgraded to it, so I don't know if that stuff is still available.Lately, on the Mac, I've used Audacity. It's been a while, though, so I don't remember how customizable the hiss reduction is. I can look later today. The nice thing is Audacity is free, so you can always just grab it and try it.
zorrow Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 I tried Audacity. It would work if I hadn't have to sample the noise. But given I have no sample of the hiss in isolation, I can't use it.
tomteriffic Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Cool Edit works better with a noise sample, but will work without one. I've found that a couple or three passes of very gentle action works better than one more heavy-handed pass.
alantig Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 If it's something you can make available to me, I can run it through Cool Edit and see what it does.
gorch Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Learning curve swings up here. I didn't know you can work with noise samples in Audacity. Thanks for the thread Zorrow!
zorrow Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 If it's something you can make available to me, I can run it through Cool Edit and see what it does.I'll consider your offer for sure. Can you please PM your email?
mathman Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I have Adobe Audition which has lot's of noise reduction tools and Peak Soundsoap Pro 2 which has noise reduction abilities and Izotop 1 which is also a noise reduction software plug in. All work well in varying degress. None are cheap but I can't help you out also.
zorrow Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 This place is just amazing. A resident expert offered me his help and he's already working on it. I have no words to thank him, as well as to thank you guys for willing to lend me a hand. Eventually you all will know what's this all about, but right now I can say already THANK YOU, once again.
