Noob tube question

the following description is from Tube Depot

"The Sovtek 5881WXT is one of the most widely used 6L6 variants available. It is the stock tube in Fender and Mesa amps. While not the most harmonically rich tube - it is very affordable and durable. If you use a lot of outboard effects this tube is for you. This tube is not the best selection for Jazz or clean guitar. "

It says it is a variant, so is it interchangeable with a 6L6 tube??

they are nice, rugged, etc. The ones you usually see around are the Sovtek 5881WXT, which are often re-branded. The TAD version looks pretty much just like the Sovtek version, so that may be the case there. Also there is now a Tung Sol reissue 5881, but I have no idea how close it is to the original in sound or design.

A regular 5881 like the Tung Sol (or older NOS RCAs or what have you) usually aren't beefy enough to handle whaT A 6l6 OR A sOVTEK ETC. 5881 wxt TUBE can. My fav reg. 5881 were old Tung Sols. I tried them in my Zinky MoFo and they got Extremely red and I shut it down less armagedon would happen. I'd go with NOS or ANOS 6l6's for the best tone. Yes, I'm currently a tube snob!

In that context, it -should- be interchangeable. Be aware, just because it's interchangeable doesn't mean it will sound the same. Personally I'd go for TAD 6L6s if you can. Unless you are going for outboard effects (which add the harmonic richness).
