bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 So I want to split all 3 pickups in my Daytona at one time, can I wire them all to the same switch to split them at the same time?
jaberwock Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Daytona's come stock with Duncan alnico II single coils as far I know; four wire humbuckers can be split to a single coil, some single coils are "tapped" allowing different outputs, multiple single coils can be run is series, or parallel to give different tones, but I've never heard of splitting a single coil pickup. Maybe you want all three PU's on at once ?
bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 I'm not using the stock pickups, i'm using stacked pickups.
gorch Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Sure you can, especially with stacked pickups. They are almost built for split coil wiring.I think this is a perfect wiring scheme to get them on line.http://articles.mercola.com/ImageServer/public/2009/May/bras%20in%20nature.jpg
bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 The wiring schematics that I have looked at usually put on on each or 2 two on one. I just didn't know if there was any reason why I can't. I'm just looking to be able to do two out put levels. I have already worked in the DG Mod so I just ordered 2 switches so I can tap the pups as well. I just don't want to use a push pull pot. I'm going to try out the Seymour Duncan Pots since I already had two sitting and if I don't like them i'll order a couple of Hamer Pots.
gorch Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Man, I thought this was a joke, since single coils are singles already. No need to split. On a five way switch you could use three positions for individual wirings. Or add a switch to on/off a pickup in a mixed setting.
bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 Which is the DG Mod, just and on/off to add in the neck pickup no matter the position of the 5way. I do believe I got it now.
gorch Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 In the latest Bo Diddley build I have the bridge and neck pickups wired on a 5-way rotary and add the middle with an on/off in series. It works pretty well.
bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 A million options out there, I just wanted a couple of simple tricks to start with. Some tricks with the Fralin Blender Pot look pretty darn cool but I am pretty happy with the 5 way option, Splitting the Coils and adding the Neck Pup in with the bridge. I'll find the best 5 sounds that I will use and then put it together like that after some R&D and field testing.
velorush Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Don't forget about the Fender S-1 switch - convenient and stealthy with lots of options for use. Could easily be used to independently ground the unused coils of each of your stacked pickups.
bubs_42 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 The S1 was definitely on my list of options.
jaberwock Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I'm not using the stock pickups, i'm using stacked pickups. Stacked pickups aren't single coil.
gorch Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I'm not using the stock pickups, i'm using stacked pickups. Stacked pickups aren't single coil.It doesn't matter anyway. He wants to on/off the middle pickup with an additional switch as far as I have understood.
cynic Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 No, he's mentioned several other wiring mods he's incorporating, but I think the original question is asking if he can wire it in such a way that flipping one switch splits the coils on all three stacked pickups, giving him a reasonable facsimile of a typical strat setup.

If we were in the same room, i'd hand you a cookie. This is in fact the original question.
