MCChris Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Misplaced my last fucking TRW (again) so I'm gonna buy, like, a dozen at my local hardware store if they've got 'em.Trying to avoid bringing a guitar with me, so what size do I need? These would be 1997 and 2002 Hamers.
Feynman Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 5/16"Be sure to get one that will fit into the opening - sometimes the hardware store stuff is too thick.
MCChris Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 I should probably pop for a couple of these. Theoretically harder to lose:http://www.stewmac.com/Luthier_Tools/Tools_by_Job/Truss_Rods/Hex_Truss_Rod_Wrenches.html
JohnnyB Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 A while back I got a bass or something and needed a truss rod wrench. I went through one disappointment after another from Stew-Mac, MF, you-name-it because none of them would fit in the carved recess. Then I tried the box end of a combination wrench from my toolbox and it slid over and in perfectly. Try it before you order anything.
MCChris Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Welp, as JohnnyB pointed out, the StewMac tool doesn't fit in the carved recess, nor does a combination wrench. So I'm confirming that the nut is in fact 5/16" before I pop for some of these:http://www.amazon.com/Wrench-Phillips-Screwdriver-Allparts-LT-4216-000/dp/B002Q163VQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1409670167&sr=1-2&keywords=allparts+truss
cmatthes Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Chris:Let me see if I have an extra Hamer one around. If I can dig one up, I'll just drop it in the mail to ya.
JimiH Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Got mine from here for my diablohttp://www.wdmusic.co.uk/truss-rod-wrench-516-inch-size-for-gibson-2704-p.aspGeoff
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I use a 2" long 5/16" Sears Craftsman socket to adjust my 79 Hamer Sunburst. Take off the TR cover and it goes right in to the TR cavity recess and on to the TR nut w/o issue........... strings do not present a problem either with having to move them out of the way. Perfect!
