Pedals Not Playing Nice

Question

Ghetto board Mark III is now operational (pics as soon as you guys figure out this issue). The order is:

TC Tuner > EP Boost > Red Snapper > Lovepedal Fuzz > TC Nova Mod > Flashback

I've been running this on the floor for a while without issue. The problem is 60 Hz hum with the EP and Fuzz on at the same time. Each is fine by itself and with the Snapper, and I've tried powering them separately with no change. Any thoughts?

is everything dc powered? i would be surprised to see a ground loop with pedals... if your bolting them to the board, you may need to use rubber washers to eliminate that ground?

Good luck.

Actually, they're wire-tied to the board! It is the GHETTO board (Mark III), after all.

They're all (except for the 12v Nova Mod) hooked to the same 1Spot, but the hum's still there if I unhook the EP and run it on battery.

I likely need to try reversing the order, putting the EP last among the drives, but that really isn't what I was wanting out of the EP. The Fuzz has given me problems before running it after a compressor. Odd I don't hear any noise running the Red Snapper in front of it...

I would run the fuzz on a carbon 9v batt. Fuzzes don't respond very well to a/c power, and it doesn't help that you're using a Onespot. They are notorious for noisy operation with some pedals.

You may have leave the ghetto and move uptown and break out the bucks for a Dunlop Brick or some other sort of regulated power supply with isolated outputs.

TC Tuner Lovepedal Fuzz > Red Snapper > EP Boost> TC Nova Mod > Flashback

try the ep near last, but, in the end, it is the lovepedal giving you grief. Lovepedal's do not stack well, play well with others.

been there, done that.

Thanks for all the help.

After much experimentation, I believe this is the root and answer. I realize the 1Spots garner some hate, but I've never had them give me problems. Nevertheless, I ran both pedals on 9v batteries with no change in results (i.e., still buzzing). The interesting thing (to me) was that clicking the Red Snapper on with both pedals actually reduced the noise slightly. I just love that OD.

I'm going to have to rearrange the order and give that a whirl. Fuzz' like to be first, anyway, so maybe it's all for the best. I'll report back in a bit...

"The Murkat Alignment" I'll call it: TC Tuner Lovepedal Fuzz > Red Snapper > EP Boost> TC Nova Mod > Flashback

Works fabulously, even powered with the lowly 1Spot. Got a few new holes to drill, George L cables to build and it should be operational. :)

Have you chained them together without the using the GHETTO board?

Didn't mean to ignore your question: yes, I've been running this group of pedals on the floor, no board, for a while. I suppose I just never noticed the noise from the EP/BBB combination. The ghetto board is only a scrap piece of plywood, so no electrical / magnetic / eddie current things going on there.

ETA: I did try the EP before the Red Snapper but I like it better afterward as it seems to help maintain the sparkle with the volume knob turned down.

Update: all finalized (as final as a pedalboard ever gets, anyway). First time to use George L cables and I really like them!

The whole board fits into an old briefcase with plenty of room for cables. Output is wired for stereo or mono out.
