SSII x 2 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Is there a formula to Hamer Serial numbers? I'massuming the first number is the year, e.g. '8' means1988, etc. Is there a serial number list here and I wasjust too dumb to search for it right?
django49 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 From 1974 through 1981 Hamer USA employed two separate serial numbering systems, one for custom instruments and one for production models: Custom Instruments: These instruments are easily recognized by the use of a four digit number stamped into the wood on the back of the peghead. The numbers ran from #0000 through #0680. All of the early Hamer USA Standards and 12-String basses as well as a number of prototype instruments were included in this serial numbering system.Production Models: Production models are stamped (initially with ink, later into the wood, on the back of the peghead) with either a five or six digit serial number. The first digit indicates the year that the instrument was built. The next four or five digits are sequentially stamped in order of production. For example, serial number 7 0001 was built in 1977 and was the first production model guitar built. Similarly, 0 1964 was built in 1980 and was the 1,964th production guitar built. The serial numbering sequence by decade is indicated below:1970s: 7 0001 - 9 14501980s: 0 1451 - 9 241921990s: 0 24193 - 9 501552000s: 0 50156 - present

ARM OF HAMER Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Thanks! This one has certainly been played, but not abused. I love the guitar and play it often...............like everyday at some point. ...................a few other pics for you. Be interesting to know if this is the last Sunburst made in 79.
FGJ Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 That's pretty cool if it's the last guitar of the 70's decade. My Cali was the last guitar made on a rainy Monday, right before lunch time, on a day that the janitor called in sick... So, nothing special.

They didn't stop at 0680-they went to about 0750. Someone posted this years ago (Ed Roman?). I know WHY that was assumed-the four digits in one book stop at 0680, but they're continued in the next book where they have more. The info likely came from someone at Hamer who wasn't as familiar with the books.
