BCR Greg Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I just finished wiring it. Your life just got better. More pics tomorrow.
mrhappy Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Yeah Baby!!! Can't wait to see it. Hows it sound??
Guest hectorp2 Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Fantastic, Young Master....Do I sense a full bench report coming on with porn enough for all????I can't wait to put it through its paces at the Midwest Jam.Thanks!!!
sirDaniel Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 If you made a HAMER BRIAN MAY model, I'm gonna KILL SOMEONE!!!...ah, where do I sign up?I never asked, because I just figured someone would tell me..."Go buy a burns"
silentman Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I'm guessing Mirage. You're probably right. No angle to the bridge pup- hard to tell.
JohnnyB Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I'm guessing Mirage. You're probably right. No angle to the bridge pup- hard to tell. What has a bookmatched flame maple top, a Kahler, and an unangled SC pickup at the bridge (though, as far as that goes, Greg could have filled in a rout that previously held a P90 or HB).
AdmiralB Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 That's not a Kahler. It's an ABM or Hipshot or some other roller-saddle knife-edge.
MCChris Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 That's not a Kahler. It's an ABM or Hipshot or some other roller-saddle knife-edge. I was gonna say ... Hectorp ain't exactly a double-locking trem kinda guy.Muff diver? Yes. Dive bomber? No.
sirDaniel Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Hector, you gotta dump the racka and buy a real amp now...
JohnnyB Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I was gonna say ... Hectorp ain't exactly a double-locking trem kinda guy.Muff diver? Yes. Dive bomber? No. What about a Muff Dive-bomber?
atquinn Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 That looks yummy ! I wouldn't mind doing that to My mirage. The real question is; did you manage to duplicate the various wiring possibilities in the original Red Special or does this just have regular strat wiring? Seems like you could at least do all-on and some parallel/series stuff by using the mini toggle and push-pulls on the volume and tone. -Austin
BCR Greg Posted March 18, 2005 Author Posted March 18, 2005 It is done, and it rips. That's a modified ABM Trem(I recontoured the bottom to clear the top on dives). Striped Ebony tuner buttons. Mmmmmmmmmm. Conventional 5 way switch with a push/push on the tone that brings the neck pickup in with the bridge, giving all three if wanted. The stock toggle is now a phase switch for the middle pickup, so the guitar now has all of the cool Brian May tones without the confusion about which switch does what. I'm not a Mirage fan, and I dig this one..... I hope the Midwest Jam crowd enjoys it!!!
MCChris Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 I hope the Midwest Jam crowd enjoys it!!! Oh we will. Awesome! Incredible flaming on that one, too! This Mirage + SirDan's Hayseed 30 and/or AC30HW = Queen medley!
Guest hectorp2 Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 HOLY CRAP!!!!!That is a thing of beauty and power.Oh yes, it will be mine!!!!!!!!!!!
pesocaster Posted March 18, 2005 Posted March 18, 2005 Greg you are one sick Mother F-er! ..... THAT is cool!
atquinn Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 Holy Crap, that's SWEEEET ! Are those pickups alot larger than standard single coils? The pickup routs looks different than stock, but they look so good, even in close-ups, that it's hard to tell. -Austin
BCR Greg Posted March 19, 2005 Author Posted March 19, 2005 The routes are a lot bigger, and the original pickup mounting holes don't work, so I had to dowel in the stock holes(after pulling the brass inserts) and route to accomodate the Trisonics. If you look closely, you'll see the very edge of the stock triangular rout by the treble side of each pickup. I didn't want to route wide enough to take that out, so I blended a bit. Cheating is good if you win. The more you look, the more you will see of the work that I did. With Hectorp's guitars, I try to make them look as if they left the factory that way. Challenging, to say the least... This one was a big challenge, Rio Grande had to make the pickups specially for this guitar. These damn Mirages give me headaches!!!!
sirDaniel Posted March 19, 2005 Posted March 19, 2005 I never asked if you could/would. That will teach me not to dream big...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...... I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
