diablo175 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Chrome metal covered p'up. Want the chrome cover gone. So, having never done this before it looks as though I just unsolder the two soldered points on either side of the p'up.That about right?
RobB Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Use solder wick or a solder sucker to take out the solder. Sometimes the blobs get a little squirrelly and shift around. Turn the screws down flush with the bobbins. Also, depending if the pickup is potted the wax may be holding the cover to the bobbins. Use a hair dryer to heat up the cover and slowly remove, don’t force it!
Hackubus Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 My method:Small hammerRazor blade between cover & base of pickup. tap tap gently.Feel free to hate away!
SSII x 2 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Wot, the Musicians Friend imprint more than ya could abide?
veatch Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I'll be removing the cover off of that one myself... I've used both methods - desoldering and *carefully* cutting with a knife. Both worked fine, but i found the knife easier. I like the "cut after heating the solder" idea. I will try that this time.
SSII x 2 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I'll be removing the cover off of that one myself...Yep, me too. Should be arriving today...
