maggieo Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Hi guys! Long time listener, first time poster! I just acquired a 1983 Phantom A5 with the Sustain Block trem and sadly, it is missing the arm assembly. There's just a hole where the bar should be. Can y'all help me find a bar that fits and looks right? Are there vintage ones lurking out there? Is there a new one that'll fit without problems? Here's the beastie: Thanks, gang!!!
murkat Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 A. welcome! great first post.B. Very nice Phantom!C. good luck finding a bar! Finding a S/S trem bar is as rare as finding, maybe rarer, than finding a sustain block bridge.

ARM OF HAMER Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Someone should ask Dave at Fretsonthenet to do a run of these. Maybe he can help a bunch of folks out at once? Edited to add - Welcome!! Awesome looking Hamer there! I was thinking the same thing Dave has done some work for me and he does a great job................. he has some NOS parts as well..................but he is not going to have this one. Great guitars BTW.
maggieo Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 Does anyone know what the original trem arm assembly was like?Maybe I could get one machined.
velorush Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 There was a discussion here at one time. I remember because I posted a bunch of photos of my old A5 detailing the arm. I'll see if I can find that thread...ETA: found it. Note also, Serial's comment about the collared Floyd arm being a big improvement.
Andrew Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Recipe:Take one Floyd Rose arm. Use a die (M6) to cut/extend the thread to 0.5cm from the bend. Put on a normal 10mm/M6 nut and tighten. Add a nylon washer and push through the sustain block. Place second nylon washer on the underside of the block and use a ny-loc 10mm nut to hold the arm in place, adjusting to give the stiffness (Fnarr-fnarr) you require. The big arms off Kahler Fulcrum and bass trems are an even better match, but you will need the same operation using whatever funny stone-age thread size Kahler are still using.DO NOT DRILL A BIG HOLE IN THE BLOCK TO FIT A COLLARED FLOYD-ARM. Just don't do it; trust me, it's a mistake.
maggieo Posted July 23, 2015 Author Posted July 23, 2015 I suspect someone is speaking from personal experience!
