GASguy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Title pretty much says it, what are the chances of finding a Hamer with a.sustainblock that has a medium or larger neck? It could be a sunburst, special or similar model as long as it comes with a sustainblock bridge.
bubs_42 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Best shot is a 79 or an 80. 77,78's vary ever single one I have owned were all different. The 4 79's I had were pretty much the same.
crunchee Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 All the 1980 Specials that I once had (around 3 of 'em a few years back, IIRC), had a 'narrow' neck width at the nut, kinda like the width of mid-late 1960's Gibson necks. That bothered me more than the neck thickness on them.
serial Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 77, 78, 79-in that order from chunkiest to medium. After 79, they got really skinny typically.i've been able to compare and A/B a hundred or more and that's my observation(s). No one has ever had a skinny-necked 77 or 78 unless it was shaved aftermarket. In this pic, it's even visible w/the naked eye. L-R: 77, 78, 79, 81, 81, 82, 83 trem, 84 carved top, 85 Electraglide; front: 89 FRT.
veatch Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Steve,How does the 77/78/79 compare to the current Vintage carve? I have not had the pleasure of playing a 70s Sunburst...Tnx.
