Newbie w questions on Daytona

Good morning and Happy New Year. I'm fairly new to the guitar and recently bought a beautiful T51 that I'm enjoying playing. Definitely a giant leap from anything I've played before. I've had my eye out for a Daytona and this one popped up yesterday on eBay. Sent 2 messages to seller: one, verifying it was US and a bit of background on it....two, asking about the dark area on bottom of neck and blemishes on edge of 14/15th fret area. They've only responded to the first message so far. Just wanted to get your thoughts...she looks fantastic otherwise. Finances are still in recovery from the holidays and T51 so I'm in no rush......does the dark area look like water damage? Neck was off at some point on its end leaning on something?

Many thanks!

Johnny

Happy new year and welcome!

That one looks pretty nice, and the opening bid is definitely on the bargain side - I'd expect it to climb to the $700-800 range. I think his claim of $1000 is overly optimistic. However, folks are saying that January is a tough time to sell, so keep your fingers crossed.

Hamers from the mid-1990's are subject to some finish imperfections around and about the neck that are often referred to as "Hameritis". It usually is only a bit cosmetic and not indicative of any larger issue. It's tough to see what's going on with the one in the eBay auction with the pictures provided.

Visual cues to it being a USA Hamer Daytona are the "USA" after the logo on the headstock, the stamped serial number on the back of the headstock, and an L-shaped cavity cover on the rear.

Welcome new guy!

It's a '94, and from those pictures, there's nothing to worry about. Anything under $700 is a pretty good deal.

Good luck!

Thank you! I appreciate the guidance with condition and price. The BIN price was taken down so.....they decided to let it ride. I believe it was at mid 8's or 9's, forgot already. Thanks again.

Looks very nice from the 3 pics we have to judge. Does the seller have more pics? You need to have pics of the areas you expressed concern.

If he's looking for a quick sale, that's not gonna happen if seller is expecting $1k. It could happen if someone develops a raging, insatiable woody for that guitar.

Please, please, pleeeeze Mommy. I promise I won't turn it up too loud.

Cheers!

The Daytona that I had also had some little pieces of wood missing on the side of the fret board similar to that one. Personally, I love my T-51 but didn't really care for the Daytona, liked the G&L strat types better. YMMV Good luck either way.

That damage seems peculiar. I can't explain it, but maybe others can?

Regardless, I'd like to have the guitar, but would feel like a discount was in order.

The current eBay price of $510 does constitute a pretty good discount, at least in my opinion.
