Fret board Inlays

1. Dots and crowns:  These are generic and I don't associate either with a particular brand.  NEITHER are appropriate for first-fret placement.

* Dots: My preferred inlay and I think they work on anything, but they look best on necks with no binding.  I really like the smaller ones (Larrivee, EBMM) on darkwood boards.

* Crowns should be reserved for short-scale, humbucker or P90 guitars with neck binding.

2. Blocks:  Les Paul Custom and other blinged out short-scale humbucker/P90 guitars.  The ONLY inlay appropriate for the first-fret position.

3. The rest:  Boomers, birds, sharkfins, clouds, etc are all brand specific and for the most part I like them all on their respective brand.  NONE are appropriate for first-fret placement.

4.  Vine/Tree of life:  No

PS. Side dots:  I recently completed a fanboi bumblebee and had the side dots done in brass as that is rumoured to be what was used on the Frankie guitar.  They're crap on a heavily birdseyed neck and are impossible to see unless at the perfect angle.  I'll be adding stickers.
