Videos run slow with Windows 10

Anyone notice that Windows 10 causes videos (youtube etc) to run slow with excessive buffering?

I have a few laptops running Windows 10 with this issue while my old Windows 7 lap top runs fine. I use a Comcast cable modem with a wireless router. I've searched for info, turned off options that supposedly use a lot of resources and have the latest Flash Player installed. Are there settings somewhere that I'm missing? Been all over control panel etc. My wireless router is a few years old and I have considered getting a different one (could use one with an extra hot spot anyway) but the fact that my old, held together with gaffers tape, Windows 7 machine works fine leads me to believe I'm missing something.

I keep reading about a hardware acceleration setting to turn off but I'm damned if I can find it.

Thanks

Have you made sure that you have the latest video drivers installed for the computers? That usually is what can cause video playback issues.

Does it show a buffering issue, or is the playback just stuttered?

Video playing on Windows 10 is a mess. I experience various instabilities on my notebook other than slow motion. It's definitely an unsolved topic for them.

One of the lap tops is brand new and I did download the latest driver anyway, no difference. the issue is buffering mainly. Plays a little, buffers and goes on from there. Kind of like I have a dial up connection again ha ha. It amazes me how Microsoft can load it down with all kinds of crap but not worry about a basic necessity. Maybe I'll call tech support for the new Dell..one of the offenders. It wasn't one of the most expensive ones, basic inspiron, maybe the video card is crap.

I know if I call Comcast they will try to upgrade my modem but I hear that once you do that you become a Comcast hot spot and accessible to anyone in the area. My kids are complaining about poor signals in other parts of the house so I may get a new wireless router with added hot spot anyway but I'm pretty sure that is not the issue.

Definitely sounds like a windows 10 issue. I'm still running windows 7 on all the computers I use. We have a few at work running 8.1.

A new computer shouldn't have any issues though. Maybe it's a flash problem? Which browswer are you using? Firefox and flash do NOT get along.

I'm using Firefox but have also tried Chrome, no change. And the Windows 7 machine works fine with Flash. Also using the latest rev Flash Player. Haven't tried Internet Explorer though..

I had the same problem with Windows 10.

Then it crashed.

luckily I've got My iPad and an old Windows 98 laptop.

I loved XP and had no issues with Windows 7. My kid loves Apple stuff in general, maybe I need to follow his lead. I shut off so many Win 10 settings from stuff I found online that use resources, all typically stuff that would go on a phone. Not that it helped. All these geniuses at Microsoft, you would think one would have considered functional video usage.

And who remembers back in the 90s when Apple was almost out of business, the stock price was less than $30 (pre multiple splits)..of course I bought Microsoft.. arghhh.

My laptop from like 2009 still has windows 7. I really dont want to upgrade at this rate. everything works the way I want it to, though it's kinda old and slow. I only use it for travelling. I Have a much more powerful desktop that is only like 5 years old.

Windows 10 uses a lot of resources. You need the horse power to run it.. 8gb of RAM or Higher will work, and also an SSD drive as well. if you have 16gb of you should be ok. I have a Dell XPS 13,, jacked with 16gb ram and a SSD and it screams no issues with video at all. yes latest windows 10 certified video drivers help along with video RAM.

Thanks guys, this is a recent purchase, impulse buy from Best Buy. Dell Inspiron. I forget the specs..not too expensive..not super cheap either..I think I can look that up on control panel somewhere..

yup, 8 gig   Intel R Core processor 1.7Ghz -2.4Ghz..  Maybe I'll call Dell  I googled SSD ..pretty sure I don't have one..

Hfan go crucial.com to see what the max memory is the system can handle,, get the most, and get the SSD, best buy carries them and a pretty decent price as well,, you will lose some capacity do to the price of them and capacity.. 120gb 90 bucks 250gb around 120+ ,, I i have a 250ssd in my MACbook pro with 16gb ram, and my Dell XPS has 16gb ram, and 120gb hd ssd , my dell is old,, lol but it runs everything with no video glitching.

Thought I'd update this. I went to Comcast and got an updated modem from them. Pretty much resolved my issues..no more buffering. Thanks for all the advice.
