Michael_B Posted April 17, 2017 Author Posted April 17, 2017 I guess I'll gauge it, the next time I change strings... in about 4 years.
Dave Scepter Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Hi Mike, I don't have an answer for you however, you can always use one of these... https://www.zoro.com/johnson-gauge-contour-2206/i/G0930675/?gclid=CjwKEAjwz9HHBRDbopLGh-afzB4SJABY52oFfqIWI-ZyUeJe9loX3E9Js9jbMfyIqVbe-CttIwxYCRoCBxvw_wcB
JohnnyB Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Has anyone here had an issue with a Hamer USA's fretboard radius? I tried out a Cruise Fiver at Bass Northwest and took to it like a duck to water. And my hands are not all that suited for playing bass. Plus, it's not like you have to worry about "fretting out" on a bass the way you might with a 7.5" radius Tele when bending notes at the 14th fret.

This is a great excuse to pick one up. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have little practical reason for asking. In part, I was adjusting the truss rod and was looking on line for some guidance for a baseline number and those guidelines varied with radius. Otherwise, I was just curious.

Since a 5-string has a middle string, it seems to me you first could tune all five strings to pitch and then use the middle string to set the tension. From there you would set the action for the middle string followed by the other four strings. This should even work for a compound radius fretboard, which I'm pretty sure doesn't appy to the Cruise 5 anyway.
Steve Haynie Posted April 18, 2017 Posted April 18, 2017 Radius gauges are a good tool to have laying around.
