I have a pretty good size record collection & I have been collecting since I was a child.  I have them in boxes & I need to elevate them off the floor a few inches in case of leaks, water, etc. Not in a basement. My ? Is, what would be be a easy, cost effective way of doing such???

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been hanging out at the audiogon forums since getting my turntable ten years ago. At that time, the sturdy, affordable shelf unit of choice for LPs was the Ikea Expedit. I wound up buying three units with eight cubes in each. I got one in blonde which I placed horizontally like the sample below (it's not mine but I have one just like it) ... and two more in black placed vertically in my living room.

The Expedit series was discontinued a few years ago, and the frugal vinylphiles have moved on to a new series called Kallax. The linked page shows the myriad configurations available. I've had my Expedits for 8 or 9 years and they're very solid and reliable. The cubes are 13.25" high and wide. you can get about 70 albums in each cube, or 420 in a 2x4 unit.

How is the Kallax different? They look the same.

I haven't seen a Kallax unit in person, but the fundamentals of the shelf designs appear to be the same. However, the options and configurations are expanded beyond the Expedit range. Expedit had options such as square basket-like bins that could occupy a square and contain loose random things. The Kallax expands on this concept with shelf dividers, hanging organizer, cube inserts with either two drawers or a single door, subdividers, etc. They may have renamed the product line to reflect that change.

One option that I think is especially cool is the heavy duty caster rails. An 8-compartment Kallax could weigh quite a bit fully loaded, and being able to roll it around for cleaning or rearranging would be handy.
