What's this adorable Epiphone?

I was in my local mom and pop today and this adorable Epiphone was hanging around- wasn't here last week:

Candy apple red, as you can see, with a banana headstock, string-through, and a bolt on neck.  It was light, played just fine unplugged with some good vibrations.  Had a serious bump on the back someone had at least painted over.

If I wasn't liquidating I'd have bought it.  I might anyway.  I've got a pair of phat cats taking up space in a drawer that could be in this one.  But what is it?  Never seen one before.

It looks similar to some of the ones that Kurt Hendrick designed when he was working briefly for Epiphone back in the 80s.

I saw one last year at a GC in Kansas City that I almost brought home for low bucks....very fast necks. I just dig the firebirdish shape....

A guy in my band got one of those a few years back.

I wasn't a fan, personally, but he likes it.

I went in and swapped one of my layabout imports for it.  Why not?

It's apparently a "Slasher," and if the interwebs are to be believed, made only in 2001.  I'll plug it in later on and see what it sounds like. Body is made out of "tone wood" mystery meat.  If nothing else, it's a platform for some pickup swaps or just a wall decoration.  It puts a grin on my face and got a go-nowhere guitar out of my stable.

Here's someone else's homework on the specs:

- 3-way Selector Switch
- Passive Electronics

Ha!  Thanks for that.  Models like Basher, Beast, Slasher and Demon and Bully!

Santa sez "On Basher and Beast, on Slasher and Demon!  We must get these guitars out for the new Christmas season!"
