Hamer_SS_guy Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Though not guitar related, but as a bassplayer I always loved to listen to drummers. Ted McKenna always was someone I loved to listen to. I think many of you guys know his playing from listening to Michael Schenker, Sensational Alex Harvey Band or Rory Gallagher. He passed away this morning.
Steve Haynie Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 The Sensational Alex Harvey Band got back together a few years ago and did a live album. It was good hearing Ted McKenna and the rest playing those old songs. The crossover of SAHB members into Michael Schenker's band seemed a bit odd as the two bands sounded nothing alike.
Midnight Moses Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Absolutely gutted Big Ted is one of my all time favourite drummers and I had the huge privelige of getting to jam with him once. Always was prepared to take the time to talk if you met him. Saw him give a history of drumming from caveman banging on a log to modern metal drumming just using a snare drum - awsome!
RobB Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 One of the unsung greats. Saw him with Rory and MSG, two completely different types of drum requirements and he killed in each show. RIP.
ZR Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Crap, I have tix to Michael Schenker Fest in April or May (I forget)... guess I just missed him. R.I.P. Wonder who they'll have drumming for them now? I'd like them to get Herman Rarebell since Powell and Appice aren't around anymore either, and he's been playing with Michael some in the recent past.

Well, Appice is still alive. Simon Phillips played on the first MSG album and he played with Schenker in 2010, but I doubt that Appice or Phillips would participate, since they're involved with their own projects.
ZR Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 ^^^ Doh! Yes, you're correct. I looked at the drummers for MSG and they had starting and ending dates under each name and when I saw that for Cozy (I knew he had passed) I assumed the same tombstone date for Appice as well! I even have the Last In Line album Appice played on ... must need coffee!
