bry4321 Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 I feel like he ripped off my jamming playlist. And like me, he plays 15 seconds of the song, gets bored, and goes to the next one This could be 90% of HFC members with a week's practice and the right gear? And before you accuse me of criticizing him, I think that makes this even cooler and more inspiring than a 12-minute noodley solo. Now, where did I put my flanger?!
Steve Haynie Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 John 5 ends his shows with those medleys. Hopefully, he will still be able to do solo tours now that he is working for Mötley Crüe. I have seen him play to an audience of 100 or less to maybe 300.

Steve Haynie Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 John 5's guitar playing at his own show is fun to watch, sort of like a spooky Steve Morse. He does a lot of country licks at his shows, too.
Travis Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Yeah, the guy is freaky good. His solo spot during Rob Zombie’s set at the Chicago Open Air concert/festival several years back was the highlight of the day.

He's said he prefers playing the smaller clubs on his solo tours because it gets him closer to an audience. The bad thing is he's played some clubs where you can see him maybe 20% of the show because the sight lines are horrible. The shows are always great, though. I saw him once at a Hard Rock where we stood behind where the soundboard was set up, and some clown came over to the sound guy four or five times during the show and yelled for him to turn it up. The sound guy finally turned and said, "The sound is great, why would I mess with that?" I said something to him after that it was the best sound I'd heard in a while and it was plenty loud enough. He said, "Right? Why would I screw that up?"
alantig Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 The John 5 medleys always make me think of the medleys Z used to do. This was at a Peavey event, but they did it at shows as well. Ahmet and Dweezil Zappa, with Mike Keneally, Bryan Beller, and Joe Travers rounding out the rest of Z.
