crunchee Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 DGS has these coming through their shop on a regular basis, so there's nothing unusual about that...but the weight on this one caught my eye, 8.8 lbs., AKA about 8 lbs. 13 oz.; or 4 Kg even for the rest of the world. I hope that the given weight on the listing is a typo! I also thought that ash was supposedly making a kinda slow but steady (and more pricey) comeback on the new guitar market? At that weight, I'm not so sure. https://www.davesguitar.com/collections/all-products-latest/products/american-vintage-ii-1951-telecaster-butterscotch-blonde Edited to add: my small pre-Pandemic stash of ash-bodied Teles/Partscasters are all under 8lbs., so I think I'll hold onto those for a bit longer now.
Hfan Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Coincidentally 10 minutes ago I was looking at this one on my local Craigslist. Dave Petillo is a local very talented guitar tech/ artist and an amazing human being . His dad was locally famous as well. But this Tele is not my cup of tea. https://jerseyshore.craigslist.org/msg/d/neptune-1951-fender-telecaster-reissue/7654851191.html
crunchee Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 Looks like the 8.8 lb. Tele is gone from DGS. Was it sold? I dunno, if it was I hope the buyer has a good chiropractor. If I was DGS I woulda rechecked the weight and/or sent it back to Fender toot sweet. To be fair, they do have another '51 RI at 7.6 lbs, which is a lot more reasonable a weight for me.
kizanski Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Wow. 1.2 pound difference. Just play sitting down if that's really going to make a difference. 80 year old Andy Summers does it.
