BruceM Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I'm finally going to sell a few guitars, and have decided to offer one a week for the next six or seven weeks. I decided to start with the one I least want to sell, just so I don't get cold feet and back out. This week's guitar is a 1993 Hamer Studio with original case, which I purchased in 2000. This guitar was my first bad ebay transaction. Listed as a Hammer, I thought I was quite lucky to pick this guitar at a cheap ebay price. Upon arrival, the guitar was damp in it's case. It's got a maple top over a mahogany body, and it was finished in the classic Hamer 59 Burst finish. However, some of the hardware was corroded (pickups were ok), with some tarnishing of the frets as well. The finish was flaking off around the input jack and a few other places. It was basically unplayable. All's well that ends well, though. I contacted Kim Keller at the factory, and they agreed to accept the guitar for a refinish. I still have the factory repair packing list, and will include it with the guitar. Here's a list of repairs from the packing list: Strip & refinish; replace bridge & TP; Replace Pots, Knobs, OP Jack; Clean up frets Here's the end result, a white, maple top Studio: The case is in rough shape on this guitar. All the latches work, but the tolex covering has lifted somewhat. It's glueable, but I haven't taken the time to do that. All the original hardware which was replaced at the factory is also included. There are no problems with this guitar. The neck is straight and true, and is the skinny neck profile which was typical for many early 90's Hamers. The guitar is very clean. It's a bit on the heavy side among my 20+ Hamers, and I would guess it to be over 8 lbs. Sorry I don't have scale for an accurate measurement. The OS Standard won't be showing up in this sale. Someone else, a 4-3-2-1 Club regular, already has dibs on that one anyway should I ever decide to part with it!
