  1. Where do I start... Some background, as I've conveyed in previous posts. I bought 7 0094 in 1986 from Eastside Music in Bondi. It was my second decent guitar, I traded an Ibanez RS315CS for it, plus cash. The store was previously called Gaslight Music, opened in 1975 by Daryl Miller. Daryl knew Paul Hamer prior to Hamer guitars coming into being. Daryl brought Hamers into Australia early in the piece, Sunbursts were coming in by 1978. He may have brought 4 digits in as well - I have one, so...... Over the years, I've seen very few Sunbursts in Australia. I have a '79 that I bought in about 2012. Jacksons Rare Guitars had three - two sunburst Sunbursts and a black Sunburst, '78/'80/'80. Joel's Vintage currently has the 1980 previously sold by Jacksons https://web.archive.org/web/20120322042425/http://www.jacksonsrareguitars.com/hamer-sunburst-1978-sunburst-finish-usa.html https://web.archive.org/web/20110318203315/http://www.jacksonsrareguitars.com/hamer-sunburst-1980-in-black.html https://web.archive.org/web/20110318203729/http://www.jacksonsrareguitars.com/hamer-sunburst-1980-cherry-finish-faded-to-tangerine.html https://reverb.com/au/item/86978536-hamer-sunburst-double-cut-1980-w-flame-maple-top So....My heart skipped a beat when I saw this on the Guitar Factory Paramatta store website. 7 0095. What are the chances. I've spoken with Daryl Miller and he's pretty sure it came through Gaslight, and it certainly is reasonable to believe that it did. Add to that, the staff at Guitar Factory told me that the owner, selling on consignment, bought it new in Sydney (Paramatta and Bondi are both in Sydney). Additionally, stuck on the case is the previous owner's blood donation card (don't ask me why) with his address (a Sydney suburb) and DOB, which places him in his mid-70s. So, this is all adding up. The case tells a story - what exactly, I'm not sure. There are radio station stickers, milk labels, honey labels, freight companies, Ibanez stickers, etc etc, all from the era. The previous owner painted his name in the case. So here we are. 7 0095 is in quite amazing condition. I thought 7 0094 was in great nick - I've babied it - this is even better. Quite clearly it can be seen that the sunburst spray is different between the two. The body and neck are very clean, apart from a few headstock chips. Minimal scratches and one small body dent on the top, hardly noticeable. There is minimal fret and fingerboard wear. CTS pots date to the 30th week of 1977 (July). DiMarzio PAFs are in place. Bullseye Grovers. One anomaly is the fret nibs, they're sorta not there on every fret. Some lower frets have a small nib, then none up until the 13th, nibbed to the 22nd. The frets are the same size as 7 0094, 2.3mm wide. It has a darker fingerboard than 7 0094 I paid AUD $995 for 7 0094 in 198. Of course 7 0095 was more, but not unreasonable for the condition, and what it is in the realm of Hamer history. And the fact that I now have sequential serial number 1977 Sunbursts. How friggen cool is that ! Thanks to Peter Fung for his encouragement - 'The two belong together !' - and knowledge L: 7 0094 R: 7 0095 7 0094

  3. Haven't heard anything from Hartke yet, but decided the go the jumper wire route. I oblonged the mounting hole a little to gain some clearance from the circuit board and slapped in a Switchcraft jack from my parts pin. IT WORKS!! And it's rock solid (unlike the rest of that plastic stuff). I took my bass player and drummer to Dave's in Sun Prairie. We were trying out used bass amps and the Hartke wouldn't work. The saleskid was trying this and that, so I says "How much as it sits?" He says, "$20". I said "Sold!" so fast it scared Bob the drummer. Saleskid keeps futzin' with it, looks at the back and discovers someone had unplugged the speaker. Works fine now! Damn, so close.... Still, at $125 I think I did alright. The little thing kranks, is in otherwise really good condition, and even sounds good with a guitar thru it. Plus I woulda felt guilty if I only paid $20 for it and found it was just the speaker being unplugged. I can't believe I've grown a conscience in my old age.....

  4. Last night there was a show with four bands in Johnson City, Tennessee: Warrant, Winger, Lita Ford (with Dee Snider), and Molly Hatchet. Warrant is the only band that I am not sure of ever having a Hamer connection, but the other three certainly have been known for having Hamer guitars and basses. Lita only played B.C. Rich guitars last night, but her guitar player was Gary Hoey. He played one guitar all night, and it was a Hamer.

  6. Beauty! I'm betting a careful series of drop fills could take care of most of that neck gouge. Speaks highly of the seller that they'd include five photos including measurements of the neck issue.

  8. That's definitely where I get called a boomer by the younger guys around here. I can't stand in-ears. I don't even like to be loud in my wedge. I want just enough to know I'm in tune and in key. Other than that, I need to feel the rest of the band.

  13. ^^^this. F@$% in-ears. I hate them. Using them reminds me of the faux AM radio fade at the end of "Have a Cigar". Tinny and shitty sounding.

  14. The real USA made 151 is rated for 10,000 cycles, so it should last a very long time. I've never had single 151 failure since the late 70's, but if the mating plug isn't a genuine Switchcraft 250 or Neutrik NP2X you will see intermittent sound. I've seen many knock-offs that are just a hair too short or thin that cause this. Sam Ash "On Stage" brand cables were one example, as were Switchcraft AA3M and AA3F XLR connectors, and Neutrik Speakon knockoffs sold on Amazon were the innards fell out into the shell.

  15. It doesn't say anything about the barrel jacks being made that way. You'd think they would if they were. From their site: This new panel-mount jack boasts full contact for optimal signal and lowest possible noise. Greater surface area at all contact points creates a more stable connection, locking the cable securely in place and carrying more signal; as a result, high and low frequencies are greatly improved creating a much more balanced sound while eliminating frequency spikes. Most importantly, the Pure Tone Jack eliminates the infamous “crackle” noise caused by pressure grounds.

  17. We tried in ears rehersals with the band over a year ago. Drummer and guitarist/singer loved them. I could not get them out of my ears fast enough. I need to feel the air moving. I need cabs.

  20. The buy/flip has definitely changed. My philosophy going forward is to buy with intent. You want it, it better be a good one. I have a few things to move yet, and a few projects to finish up. if something worth the purchase shows itself I’ll think twice.

  21. Senior Year 1968, I know, old as ****. The Who played a concert in our high school gym. They were killing time before playing the Grande Ballroom. Tickets were a few bucks. Got the whole show including the destruction during My Generation!!! Debra and Joan went on to become the band's groupies and the un-named male is still a roadie for the group!! arniez

  22. They've gotten popular around here, but the sound engineers at the local bars aren't any better on average than the were 20 years ago. My ears are already too blown out to risk some 23-year-old stoner nuking them at close range.

  28. Mine came yesterday. Easy to set up. I immediately typed "Judas Priest Unleashed in the East" into the app and the AI gave me four tone options that seemed possibly semi-related to a JP sound. The headphones sound good and are comfortable. My concern about whether I will blast out my hearing remains, but there are some controls built into the app to deal with that. I did not try to design my own sounds or tones or whatever. They have plenty of presets that should allow me to find something close enough to whatever I need for now. I am cautiously optimistic that it will be easy to play along w/Apple Music or youtube but I haven't tried that yet. (I assume it works with other music streaming sources too, I just use Apple.) The headset allows you to click between four presets so you don't have to monkey around with the app all the time. I am curious about a couple of other features -- autochord, which automatically gives the chords for songs you are listening too, and the possibility to use a footswitch to change the preset sounds. I don't think there is an "out" option to send from headphones to speakers or computer, but your presets remain on the Spark app and you can use them on other Positive Grid devices/interfaces. Headphones and wireless jack both use USB-C. Someone asked about the battery and it is not apparent to me whether it is replaceable or not.

  34. True Dat......My perspective is as a resident in a community property state. If you are NOT so blessed, the step up will be only on the portion held in the name of the first deceased. Which MAY be half of the subject property if held in joint name. And may be something different than a 50/50 split, esp if there are other investors. One strategy that one of my investment partners used (obviously he knew he was terminal, this being in Oregon, a non community property state) was to have his wife quit claim deed her half of their interest to him before he died. Then, upon his death, the full 100% went from him to her and she did enjoy a full step up. Key thing here is to check off with your legal advisor in your location BEFORE you get locked in. I outlined the advantages of the step up in basis with my better half. She did not necessarily concur that it would be a smart thing to do for HER to go first......😏

  38. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but the lads in Warrant seemed to gravitate toward whichever brand would supply them with custom instruments gratis (or almost gratis): BC Rich, then Carvin, then Ibanez....and much later, G&L.
