Looks great... congrats! -
honestly.... I think that's 1/2 the reason I never bothered before..... fear of getting stuck in the endless quest for the Holy Grail of pickups..... I have always loved Duncan 59's ... but found them lacking a bit of bottom the my Superpro..... So count me in on the Rio preach..... I hath seen the light.... and the light is good.... ha ha ha Spoze I'd like their single coils too....... shit!

All repaired... installed..... Breathing fire!!!! BBQ / Texas combo is the sound I've had in my head for years I am thrilled beyond words!!! If you have not checked these out..... you need to.... really.... I have been a die hard Duncan fan for years.... these are truly next level..... Kiz you rock! Thanks buddy!

There you are!!!!! so after finding the problem... I went in and replaced the whole wire .... pickup is working perfect now..... Tonight it get's (re)installed!!!!! The tricky part finding the short.... it wasn't till I tested resistance frome the individual tap wires to the housing ground that I found it.... grrrrrrrrr Fun little puzzle to solve though...

Happy Birthday m chops & Foont

Cheers for another year! -
Found the problem.... one of the tap wires is shorting to the grounding braid when bending after being installed..... delicate surgery this weekend.... that was a bit of a brain bender.....
-
I had a Pearly of Jack's that drove me nuts until I undid the tape around that pair of wires and found out it was an iffy solder joint. Sometimes I had the whole pickup, no buzz, sometimes half the pickup, all the buzz. AAAAAAAAA Good thought!
-
Ah screw it ... just gonna go get some EMG's ha ha ha More surgery tonight....... I'll just go thought the whole thing again....
-
it's almost like the coils are out of phase with each other and one is more dominant.... I guess the next step is to map out each lead ... would a flipped magnet cause anything like this.???? the only other thing I can think of is a short in the lead towards the bottom of the pickup and when it's installed it's creating the short....

Alright .... a good buddy sent me a Rio BBQ to try out.... and I'm having "issues" with it... Here is the run down see if any of you have heard or seen this before.. I am far from a novice to electronics... however I'm also famous for walking around the house looking for my car keys whilst holding them..... #1 Rio BBQ 4 conductor Problem... only one side of the pup working when installed... Seems any load (Switch / Vot Pot / tone pot) is making this thing act like it's tapped... hum from hell.... really strong signal from one side of the pickup... getting some ambient noise out of the other coil... but the singal is about 1/4 the strength... What I have done so far.... Removed pickup... tested all leads about 6.5K per coil .... combined 12.6k tacked it to a guitar lead direct to amp... "seemed" to work just fine.... quiet ... grounding the R/W gave me a tapped bucker (screwdriver tap test).... as it should be.... re-installed it ... only hooked up to a Hamer Vol pot then to the output jack .... same problem.... all over again.... any ideas??

Stringing a Stop Tail ... SP owners
pesocaster replied to pesocaster's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
hahahha Well the strings are dead... going to try the washer trick this weekend..... after giving this a lot more though... I think this will work out better.... one of the "advantages" of wrapping a standard stop bar (non Tone Pros) would be the slight twisting of the bar making a very solid contact against the posts..... however the tone pros takes that out of the equation....... I'll post after the weekend... -
Happy Birthday, Elldoooahhhvey!

I hope I play better than that...... ha ha ha Now Now Kids if we can't play nice there won't be any milk and cookies... er I mean Beer and Boobies...... Hey I just stumbled upon this in a way to Keep using a heavier string with a little less tension..... and when I had raised the stop bar to the point where I was happy it "seemed" like I was loosing some sustain so I gave this a whirl..... My thought is that there would actually be more string contact to the stop bar possibly gaining a bit of resonance directly to the body.... similar to a regular wrap tailpiece ..... could be something... could be nothing who knows....... it worked just fine so I thought I'd share what I found...... Having read the rest of this thread it has given me another couple ideas... i.e. the washers under the bar and tightening it down to make the contact solid is a fine idea and will give that a shot when these strings die.... or next weekend..... if the results are the same... well splendid! it was a bit of a pain stringing it this way to begin with... adding the extra ball and such..... However, I do like this discussion..... game on! Argue away! -

alright alright......... I'm not a closed minded guy... the Washer idea makes good sense to me ... and I think the play in the threads did have an effect when I had the bar that high.... this would address THAT issue.... and I'll give that a whirl next string change...... I do think the extra string length has something to do with it... but I'll give it a shot..... So back off Kiz!!!! SMN! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA -

Huh? when you string the stop bar backwards then bring the string back over the top of the stop bar .... If you don't add a second ball / string end, the string will bend at the end of the string wraps at the ball end... and break your string.... take the ball off the string you just took off the guitar and thread it on the new string... using it like a spacer.... broke a couple strings last night bringing them to tension.... -
So last night I needed to restring the PesoPro..... and since this is the 6th or 7th set of strings to go on this I thought I'd try the wrap over the stop bar trick (Ala Billy Gibbons) for the hell of it....... First off FYI... need to add a 2nd ball end on the string so it doesn't break at the end of the wraps.... I really didn't think this would make much difference ... seeing that the bridge system is tone pros..... well low and behold was I wrong....... Buy doing this it eliminated all of the "new guitar stiffness" .... the guitar is alive and the strings seem to have more "stretch" in them..... Like some of my "other" 25 1/2 scale guitars... The overall benefit... the tone of the .11's with the stretch of 10 1/2's... perfect balance... The biggest benefit was in playability... and I certainly didn't notice anything lacking in tone... at all... I know some of you will argue this and that pro and con.... bla bla bla.... Just try it... all it will cost you is a set of strings and 15 min... And if you are not blown away like I am... well then you are out a set of strings and the time it takes you to swap them .... Hey good enough for Billy Gibbons.......

Duncan 59's Bridge and neck (Tappable) Duncan single in the middle (RPRW)... 5 way switch (think standard Strat config) middle pot is a vol for the single and pulls for coil tapping outer buckers) Long scale... Ebony board no inlays... just side dots Finest guitar I have ever played...... After spending a LOT of time with it in the 3 or so months I've had it.. I am considering changing the lead pickup for something a little fatter... Rio BBQ or Duncan C5 most likely.... But I really have 0 complaints overall..... More pics and details here: http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...6896&hl=pesopro
