No extension cabinet needed- its plenty loud without one. Gain pedals aren't needed either. You could easily gig with just the amp, a tuner, and a wah (if you use one).

The 50 watt 1-12 Switchblade combo is a great gigging amp- from squeaky clean to more gain than you'll ever need, and you can carry it with one hand. It fits in the back seat of the Mustang, without having to remove the carseat.

FWIW, I used Graphtec Ghost saddles on a PRS import with tremelo for my Variax transplant. The whole guitar cost less than one of those Ibanez trems is likely to cost.

You're only as old as the people who feel what you play : ) I think a classic rock band would do really well in private clubs (just do plenty of slow songs along with the rockers). There are also many suburban bars in our metro area that cater to "grownups", for lack of a better term. If you chose the right venues, you'll be fine.

That's not unlike putting an aluminum tailpiece on a '70s LP Custom to save half an ounce : )

Steve, Just put the Marshall stack behind you, and sidewash what you are REALLY playing through ; ) I used to play a stereo setup with 2 Marshall Silver Jubilee heads and 2 4-12 cabinets, a ten space rack, and a big pedalboard. I'm down to a 1-12 H+K Switchblade combo, a four space rack, and pedalboard that is just big enough for a G-System and a few pedals.

Dave, that's what those old guys used, back when rockstars had to buy their own guitars. They were playing used guitars that were no longer in production, because they were the right screwdriver for the job. Mass-produced Fashion is more about marketing than utility

I've not seen a $350 Phantom for a long time, either. Like DavidE said, I like them - the unusually spaced SSH pickup configuration makes the guitar pretty versatile. They aren't as popular as Specials and Sunbursts because they are a bit on the pointy side : )

Professional mastering (and the good set of objective ears that comes with it) is always a good idea. If I was going to put a CD directly into the stores, I would have someone else master it.

Izotope Ozone is really nice Mastering software. It will make your best mix better.

Here's my Custom 22: Mine isn't snooty - late '90s, no 10 top, no birds. Its a great utility guitar - much more versatile than a twin humbucker Hamer, and it stays in tune when I whammy. I like my old Phantoms better (talk about apples and oranges), but the PRS works better for the stuff we play than any of the Studios I have owned. I played with some friends a few weeks ago, and took a Phantom and the PRS. I played the Phantom for the first set. I met a guitarist on the break, and the first thing he said to me was " Wow- you must really love that Hamer, if you are leaving that PRS on its stand." Yep, I do..
