Robin - anyone have one?
kizanski replied to stedge's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
The E-Types were shipped to Greg sans pickguard. I don't know why some fit well and others... well... don't. But they are cool in that they are more Fender than Robin. No neck pickup route. These were supposed to be set apart from the Wranglers as custom, not a variation of the available parts in the shop. -

Yes, 6 made, all with unique and varied-fitting pickguards. -

Although it has been well documented that Velcro shoes are for the elderly, the shit-faced and the retarded, Velcro shoes don't make the CLINK sound when the plain E string gets bent in between the fret end and the binding. And yes, I've experienced this on more than one (then) newer Hamer. Just face it: If it has never happened to you, you don't use enough hand vibrato. -

@The Shark never sells anything, so you should jump on it. As stated above, that Avalon is the 2nd one Dave Wintz made for me and it's a beast. Crazy flame top, wrapper bridge (of course), double crown inlays, headstock binding, jumbo frets OVER the binding (again, "of course"), and the aforementioned large '58 Gibson-shaped neck with the soft V. Also, I asked Dave to sign the back of the headstock. I don't know why. I just had always felt that he was one of the more quiet guitar builders I have seen. He would always let others do the talking while he stood at the CNC machine. Even during factory open house days he would have others do the presentations. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I wanted him to sign the headstock as a tip of the hat to him. So, he signed the back and added "KIZANSKI" under the serial number. I didn't ask for that. He just did it. I think he added my name as a tip of the hat to me. He was a great guy. -

It's hard to tell, but if he explains it away as a "minor repair" and won't elaborate further, then I would also suspect a funky issue. -

Frets OVER the binding! -
Welcome, WyldJon! (this should be your name goin forward). I never met your uncle (in person) but had several exchanges with him, both on the board and via email/private message. I will always remember him fondly. He was always a welcome contributor on this message board. Thanks for posting!

Thanks. Now it has a name.

I was sure I wanted this guitar painted in a Sonic Blue/Seafoam Green color with creme binding. Stike had other ideas.

Not going to need that control panel on the lower horn (ditching the master volume knob), but I didn't see the point of filling and laminating to hide it. It's the back, after all. Frets were poop. Had to go. These'll do.

It has been over two years. Time for an update! As we already know, this guitar was purchased in "The Before Times" which in this context has a dual meaning: before Covid changed our lives (it was still early on in the lockdown) and before I sold off most of my guitars and swore off buying any others. This retina-burning stepchild (orphan, really) deserved better, as @cmatthes recently said, "...after living a life of tragedy." Well put. Before: After:

Yes, because it has no strings, making it completely fucking worthless. -

I don't think anyone has seen Ronnie James Dio anywhere for quite a while. -
