  1. Cha-ching!!!!
  2. +1 - Never understood their appeal either. "The Foos' shittiest song..." You've got a lot to choose from. -1 - For the "when is she not" reply about Rhianna being hot. Really? Looks like a North Avenue hooker from here
  3. I'm assuming aftermarket body with 2 Daytona necks, or is it a REAL Hamer doubleneck? Beauty either way, but I can't help but notice the use of a Hamer cover for the trem cavity, and are those "Double D" p'ups?
  4. I'd love to be reunited with my old '79 Standard, #0166, and I think I may have a lead (if anyone else does, let me know, please), would love to custom order a few, like; * A set neck Cali - single/single/humbucker with some fancing wiring, boomers, and a purty top * A Trans Red Standard Custom, perhaps with boomers - really like the tumbling boomers idea, unless I could find an OLD one * Despite having picked up an Indigo Standard Custom a couple of months back, for 25 years my "Grail" guitar has been an Indigo Standard Custom with a flame maple board (couldn't get the one that was up on Feebay last summer 'cause 'o' da Floyd). I could probably go for a Newport Pro Custom wth a Bigsby, and a Monaco III too.
  5. I remember when Great White released their cover of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" ('89?), nobody I worked with knew what I was talking about when I said that I liked the original better. The only thing better on the cover version was the drumming (IMO). Oh, and that little thing about (the UBER HOT) Bobbi Brown being in their video. I know we've got a lot of Chicago area guys on this forum, and most probably around my age. Anyone remember a little band (only 1 album, but it was killer!) called The Boyzz from Illinoizz? They used to do a smokin' cover of Motts' "One of the Boys" (gee, wonder why?). For any kids out there, or for the guy who thought that the guys in Mott were just hangers on to Bowies' coattails, listen to this , a great Ralphs/Hunter tune to hear in a bar, with your hand wrapped around a cold one.
  6. Way under appreciated band, both now and then. I've got a couple buddies who are 4 years older than me (HS class of '72), who were into them back then and turned me onto Mott. Through high school, all anyone knew was "All the young dudes", their loss. One of my favorite videos is here; www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0CtET6sL6g&feature=related , and shows Ariel (Luther Grosvenor) wringing tone out of the LP junior The Shark talks about above. Also gotta love the self depricating sarcasm Hunter throws out in the beginning, that gets a laugh from the audience, about their latest "hit" recording. Watch also when Hunter shoos Bender away from the mic, then later Bender does the same to Hunter with the headstock of his Junior. Great stuff. Might not be too much of a stretch to guess that maybe Ace Frehley got the idea for his outfit from watching Bender, or that Gene Simmons got the idea for his boots from those that Watts is wearing.
  7. Velorush - you're all over this! Jobim & Gilberto are responsible for getting more guys laid than Heidi Fleiss!
  8. Disagree with almost everything posted here that I know, or listened to, but hey, if it works for you and your lady, hit it! I've been hearing guys say "Avalon" is great since the '80's, but it always seemed like pablum to me. The Larry Carlton & Jim Hall suggestions are where I'm coming from. It's all about putting some great tracks together on a disc or as I did back when I was 19, on a reel to reel tape. Back when I was a sophomore in college, I grabbed an old Ampex reel to reel tape deck that my Dad wasn't using, and put about 2 hours of music on tape that I'd always play if I thought I had a chance with the girl I was with. I wish I still had it (recorded it in '77), but I remember some of the songs on it were; Jeff Becks' "Cause we've ended as Lovers", and "Diamond Dust" from Blow by Blow, and "Love is Green" from Wired. Wes Montgomerys' version of "Misty", "Blackberry Winter" by Keith Jarrett (the version with Piano/Bass/Drums), and anything my roommate and I could find that was jazzy, like Al Caiola, and even some of his Moms' albums, like Julie London ("Cry Me A River" was cool), but most of it was instrumental. That tape worked so well with what were 18-20 year old girls back then, that one chick I brought back to my room, even gave me a look as soon as I put it on, as if to say "Shit, I'm gonna get laid, aren't I?" Ahhh, magical times. Other songs that fit really well with this are Santanas' "Europa", SRV's "Riviera Paradise", and if you can find some John Klemmer songs that don't have one of his trademark "saxophone farts" in it (a mood killer, because you'll both laugh), you're on your way. Latin jazz is a great way to get things started if you can dance at all, (you're really just rubbing up against each other with that stuff, and they say that dancing is just f**king, standing up, anyway). You can, and should, even use vocal music for this. ANYTHING that Astrud Gilberto sang is a winner, as are some of the songs by Sergio Mendes. If you play "Mas Que Nada", "Summer Samba" (play these first, 'cause they're the fastest), Girl from Ipanema", "Corcovado", "Wave", "Desafinado" all in a row, and your girl isn't humping your leg, ditch the bitch, 'cause she's got no soul.
  9. We buried a great friend of mine on Tuesday as well, one of the best guys in the world, and he was only 58. Another buddy of ours delivered the eulogy, and after an amazing 15 minutes, he closed with a line he attributed to Dr. Seuss. "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened". It got me a little happier than I've been since he died last Thursday, and it may be the best thing that I can leave you with.
  10. I think the operative question to ask someone like Serial, in a case like this, is what would YOU like?
  11. I'll set the Money line on this as; Bubs -200 Feynman +180 And for you totals players, the O/U is; May 1st, -110 either way
  12. Somebody please grab this soon! I have NO BIDNESS buying anything right now, but it's getting tough to watch this. Hmmmmmmm, what COULD I sell?
  13. So sorry for your, and her families loss. I know it's got to be tough, but like a few others alluded to, it sounds like she was happy at the end.
  14. Great of you to do that. Maybe should have gone in wearing the Ace Frehley getup, and scared the crap out of 'em
