I hung-out with guitarist Kerry King on a few occasions back in the mid-to-late '80s period of "Hell Awaits"/"South Of Heaven"/"Reign In Blood". One hell of a nice, mild-mannered, soft spoken guy most of the time. We had the opportunity for a few friendly "chats" about tempo and melody... He was nice enough to put me on the guest list for a few of their local SoCal shows back in those days, but I only managed to take him up on it once. OTOH, bassist Tom Araya was one of the creepiest characters I've ever had the displeasure of spending time in the same room with, thank you... :D Hey, I'm not totally knocking their music. It definitely has its time and place.

Most Pretentious Albums of All Time

Does this one qualify? Listen to bad-ass Pat's cover of Holy Diver... -
Well, I can't fault him for not telling you the reserve (what good is a reserve if you tell someone what it is?), but what he DID tell you was inaccurate to say the least. As a matter of fact, the only truth to it was that the guitar was in fact a Hamer. As for the "limited release" and he MSRP number - uh-uh. You're right, and it felt pretty cheesy asking; first time I've done that. Thought I'd try it considering the suspiscious nature and series of events. His answer was right in line with what some of us thought his original intent to be...

I tried politely asking what his reserve might be, to which he responded with this: "...this one was a limited release per Hamer Guitars. The MSRP was closer to $3300 when it was in production..." This was after he revised the listing, never offering the reserve.

That place has always seemed deserted whenever I've visited with no more than two people on the floor, Ed usually being one of them. Ironically, the busiest I've ever seen it there was just three weeks ago when I talked to the techs in back, and Ed was no where to be seen.

Brad Delp death was suicide too
Crwth145 replied to tafkathundernotes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I know what you mean. This has been bothering me since not long after making that post and realizing his death may yet be determined suicide. I'd even thought about trying to edit it or remove it completely. Edited to add: Suicide should not be that unimaginable to anyone that has truly lived. -
The First Tone That Made You Say... "Whoa!"

Was Ridin' along side the highway, rollin' up the country side. Thinkin' I'm the devil's heatwave, what you burn in your crazy mind? Saw a slight distraction standin' by the road; She was smilin' there, yellow in her hair; Do you wanna, I was thinkin', would you care. Sweet Hitch-a-Hiker, We could make music at the Greasy King. Sweet Hitch-a-Hiker, Won't you ride on my fast machine? Anybody know what guitar/amp that is? Good question. Fogerty sure was fond of his black Les Paul Custom and the old Kustom transisterized amps. -
The First Tone That Made You Say... "Whoa!"

There were lots of good ones early on that got my attention, like in... Sweet Hitch-hiker Bang-a-Gong Come Together Mississippi Queen Schools out - No More Mr. Niceguy Hey Joe Smoke on the Water Black Dog - Stairway to Heaven But I'd have to say the one tone that cut me the deepest when first heard was in... Geez, where to begin... How about with Cheap Trick opening for KISS in Phoenix AZ, July '77. "In Color" was just being released. Van Halen absolutely blew me away at the Long Beach Arena soon after. It was the homecoming show of their first album tour. I don't remember who opened for them, nor do I care... Saw Nazareth open for the 'Nuge as well, in Tempe AZ. Yes, absolutely deafening! Thin Lizzy - Queen? ("A Day at the Races" Tour) AC/DC - Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush? (Bon Scott era) Rush and anybody they toured with. When they'd hit PHX/TUC back-to-back, we'd make the 120 mile trip. Actually, the best pairing I've seen was back in about '80 when a friend of mine insisted we go to a club and check out this amazing guitarist he'd heard about. After we got there and the lights dimmed, a strobe soon followed and at about the same time a wailing feedback vibrato guitar solo surrounded us as our eyes frantically scanned the stage for the source. Not long into the solo we began to see a skinny brother sportin' a 'fro and bright flowing scarves slowly, painfully, and soulfully writhe up on out of the dry ice fog like a voodoo chil' zombie a-risin' from the grave, reverse stratocaster a mere extension of the body, heart, mind, and soul. They said his name was Randy Hansen , but I swear to god I saw Jimi Hendrix play guitar that night! (and it wasn't just the roll-yer-owns... ) Paring? This was the first of two shows, and we promptly went and bought more tickets... Check Randy out at YouTube... I Don't Live Today Little Wing
