If the 2nd digit of the serial number is a 4, then doesn’t that make this a 1996, not 2006? Every 1996 Artist I’ve seen so far has the thin neck “modern” carve, not the vintage trad profile. Just wondering.

It's a '96.  Usually, the light-colored rosewood board is the dead giveaway, but it also has several other characteristics that were changed after the over to New Hartford in '97.
