cornjulio Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 This is pretty interesting: https://www.ebay.de/itm/335965881172 I met the guy who says he's the first owner of this 1982 Hamer Special. The guitar is pretty cool and I am interested myself in buying it, but there are two things that concern me a little (also in regards to the rather ambitious asking price): The blue finish is on top of a red finish (judging by the dings on the headstock that show red paint underneath) and it doesn't feel/ look like there's a clear coat on the side of the fretboard. It does have what appears to be the original hamer ink stamped serial no. I'm assuming Hamer painbted it red first and then someone wanted a blue Special and they just put a coat of blue on top? No cracks in the finish or anything. Or is this an aftermarket job? The other thing the seller didn't mention is, that the guitar has a tiny switch on the cavity cover on the back. The sellers said it was an on/ off switch but I could hear something moving behind the plate. It was an empty 9V battery and someone had installed some kind of pre-amp situation, very amateurish-gaffer-tape and cardboard pocket with wires. The potis seemed to be the original hamer branded potis. Of course I should have taken a picture of the interior. What baffles me that the owner, who was definitely a nice guy, didn't seem to have any recollection or explanation for the extra wires etc. Also he didn't mention it in the descripition on ebay which is a little strange. Also there is a tiny spot in the blue finish on the front that looks like it'been sanded and coated, like a prentend heavy wear of down strokes with a pick. Anyone kow anything about this? 1 Quote

And for someone who made it an almost weekly habit to buy Sustain Block Specials for $350, it would still be difficult. 6 Quote
cornjulio Posted June 9, 2025 Author Posted June 9, 2025 @kizanski I hear you. seller/ owner supposedly the same person btw. I love the colour and the neck is a really nice one but unless the price is somewhere around what you mentioned I won't go for it. Maybe someone else will.... Cheers! 1 Quote
DarkHammer Posted June 9, 2025 Posted June 9, 2025 BTW, the seller is in Germany and his eBay listing says no shipping to the US Quote
