I'd love a Kemper, etc., but back in the 90's a friend & store owner loaned me one of those rackmount Art preamps that did everything in the world. It was on all weekend and played absolutely no guitar save a chord or lead run to hear what the next option sounded like. Even now I have a Positive Grid Spark. It sounds fine as far as I can tell (after using it a total of maybe five hours). I cannot abide interfacing with it via my iPhone and there are entirely too many choices when I do. I've been tempted by the Kemper, Helix, etc., too many times, but I know it would be just like the Art preamp experience thirty years ago... Quote

Is it possible to edit on iPad? I have several iPads I almost never use. iPad Air etc All the way back to ipad2. Could you use an iPad that’s already in a drawer as an editor and legacy device? Basically like a hard drive for patches? Maybe the tech needs a phone not an ipad to sync? Idk Tia! Yes. I have a desktop computer, an iPhone, and an iPad - I greatly prefer the iPad. I have an iPad holder on my mic stand that wirelessly sets up my Boss GT1000CORE on the floor when I tap the song title in the setlist. The Korg Gadget app on my iPad has been my main compositional tool for the last ten years. I no longer have (or miss) having a laptop computer. Quote

Nothing wrong with modeling technology. It’s a tool like anything else. If it makes thing easier for guitarists, far out. I just can’t use so many options for the few basic tones I like (Wah, swirl, delay, amp). 1 Quote

I have a slimmed down pedal board I made for fly dates (which I guess I do actually get as of late) and gigs where you have a shared backline and like five minutes to set up. After making some hard choices, it consists of: Polytune Wampler Ego Mini Lovepedal Vibronaut Wampler Moxie Lovepedal Purple Plexi Keeley Caverns V.2 I now use it more than my main board. I do miss the wah pedal, but not all that much. I can do the Gilmour/Trower stuff I like, and there is enough dirt there to make a Fender Twin work for just about anything short of djent. All of which is to say why I have also never bothered with a modeling amp. I do have a Quilter as a backup amp, so it's not an aversion to solid state amps. Just complicated solid state amps. 1 Quote
