Brooks Posted September 15, 2025 Posted September 15, 2025 (edited) Just got this Japanese RG470 from my medical examiner pal. He tried to sell it to me ~10 years ago, but I was up to my neck in shredders (due to playing in Ded Mullet w/ Stike). Caught his ad right when it went up, went by his place and had a few beers, he also has a sweeeet Ibby Premium RG and a cool one pickup RG. Played it, the action was high and the trem didn't hold tuning (Ibanez branded licensed Floyd), so I asked if i could take it home and tweak it, he said sure (we're pals, gone to concerts & deep sea fishing etc). Shimmed the neck and "half blocked" the trem (dive only) and BAM I no longer had an excuse not to buy it! Probably will swap pickups at some point, but after adjusting the height & polepieces it sounds good. Nice hardshell case, too (not that I care, I'm a gigbag guy). RobB Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 Outstanding, Brooks. Dig the soft white underbelly graphics on the side. 1 1 Quote
velorush Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I have always loved Ibanez shredders - can't play them at all, but I always thought they had the best looking shape. And snakeskin? When I saw this cover I thought this was one of the coolest guitars I'd ever seen: Of course, IIRC, that was real snakeskin, but I started investigating how to paint a finish like that and discovered a cheesecloth method that looked pretty cool. All that to say, great score! 1 Quote

Kinda wish I had the other 2 back but if I step back and really think about it, they were sent packing for a reason. Looking forward to a tone report on the Ibby RG! Interesting use of a honeycomb mesh netting to create the illusion of snakeskin! Never have seen that before! Quote
