BCR Greg Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I have yet to see gold binding material, other than the sparkle drum covering that Gretsch used on White Falcons. That stuff shrank and cracked.I bound a guitar in brass for a customer, but he had to keep polishing it since lacquer wouldn't stay on. I told him, he wanted it and he got it.
Mike_C Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I guess someone could use 24k gold leaf on binding but I don't think it would be that durable.
Stike Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 You could mask and paint a faux binding if were gonna be cleared over but like chrome paint just doesn't look the same stuffalthough there are a couple new chrome look paints out there that are getting really close. The stuff is stupid pricey though.
silentman Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 I wish Hamer would do "natural" binding ala PRS, etc... Someone try to order one.
thecajunboy Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 Wouldn't gold leaf work? It's used on custom paint jobs under clear.
Cheap Chick Posted April 1, 2005 Posted April 1, 2005 How about a solid gold guitar.. could Hamer make a solid gold guitar??? They could call it the Danny Terrio model
cmatthes Posted April 2, 2005 Posted April 2, 2005 There is a current manufacturer of Gold Sparkle binding material. I have even thought about running it up the flagpole on a custom order, but am not there yet.
AXEMAN Posted April 2, 2005 Author Posted April 2, 2005 cmatthes gold binding on a rosewood top and or neck and head stock,,look good??
cmatthes Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 That would be a matter of purely personal taste, of course!
