Guest hamewren Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 This is one of the '58 'V' replicas - #49 of 72. Guitar is in near excellent condition with some light pickwear on the pickup covers and a couple of very small dings - otherwise perfect. This one's pretty light and has a more natural lacquer vs. the oranger (is that w word?) vintage tint. Gentlemen.. am I crazy to take $2500? This one was supposed to go be with me until death, but it never gets played and it makes me too nervous to really enjoy it. A real work of art that belongs with a true believer.. hehehe.. at any rate, just hoping for a little guidance in this difficult time.. all comments welcome.
silentman Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Not crazy in my book. If it doesn't get played you shouldn't miss it. If you're gonna miss it play it.
Mr Fuzzy Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Not a bad offer considering I recently bought a new one for $300 less, than what you were offered. Is there a major difference between the 97 run and the current Korina vectors?
cmatthes Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 Was #49 the Matthew Sweet-owned Vector? Tarnishing on the "V" tailpiece?I could be wrong...
Travis Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 #69 of 72 is at a local store here west of St. Louis. It has the standard Hameritis issues along with some tarnishing on the tailpiece. The guy was asking $3000 for it. Granted this is before any haggling. If you don't play it, then sell it to someone who will. Guitars are meant to be played, not locked away. This is only my opinion, mind you. Sell it for what you think is a fair price. Otherwise, keep it and play the shit out of it because those things are hella sweet.
Travis Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 St. Charles Guitar Exchange in St. Charles, MO. It was hanging next to one of the Korina Standards with the offset V shape headstock that Gibson originally used for the Explorer. They were there a few months ago along with a Korina Jr. A couple of weeks later they were all gone and the owner said that they had been sold. About 2 weeks ago, I went back in there and the Standard and Vector were back in there. Actually, I only assumed they were the same ones. They are not an official Hamer dealer so they wouldn't have been new ones.
tomjoyce Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I have #45, dead mint, and got it for $2K even. If you're selling, 2500 is a good offer, but they'll have to pry mine out of my cold dead hands.
serial Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Matthew Sweet's was either #42 or #19, depending on who you talk to. Both were at Willie's, but IIRC, #019 had a case with his name stencilled on it or something. For Copper, Jeff Tweedy has or had #0012.
