Rare Black Newport Pro!

Hey Folks,

I've decided to sell off the twin black newport pro that I brought from ToneJunkie last year. I brought it as a backup rig and quite truthfully have spent almost no time with her since the purchase. Right afterwards, I came upon an opportunity to buy Improv #2 for a stupid price. Between my 1st Newport, the Improv, and Florence the 12er Newport I had all the Hamer time I needed.

What you need to know is that it is one of the only spruce topped black newports Hamer made. I have the other and I believe there might be one other. Hamer had gone on record that they won't shoot black on spruce anymore (not sure where this stands today). It setup with gold hardware and a pair of seth lovers. The condition is very good but it had been played well before I got her - general lite wear and the typical fade of the gold sparkle. Its not a wall piece. Its a players guitar and a sweet one at that. I don't have to tell this crowd about how killer the spruce / seth combo can be. And it freakin black. The newport in the pic below is of her chrome twin. I'll bring my camera into work tomorrow and get a few shots of her. :o

I'll looking for $1000 - shipped to the lower 48. Paypal encouraged.

I haven't heard back from Dave since I (finally) sent pics this weekend. Here's a few pics to get started in case he's decided to pass.

Not sure how many were made, but I may have the only other one in existance. These are incredible guitars and look very good in black. Great price by the way!

hey that's wild. was this the one that wilcutt had listed? I was thinking that was a maple cap. its such a cool vibe having a black axe with such an airy sound.

Hamer WILL NOT EVER do black or white (or any other solid colors) on spruce again.

so I understand sir dan. the reason I held on to goldie here for as long as I did was as a backup. if something happens to the chrome one, that-be-that. I just can't justify sitting on this when things get tight. (I'm secretly hoping she won't move though.) :o

Wow. I hope that's not the case. I'd like my next Hamer to be an M3 in Black.

Isn't the M3 a maple cap? Back when the sundry blackies were ordered, Hamer seemed to make a distinction.

M3 comes stock with a Spruce cap. I love the way the Spruce "moves".

I hear ya Dave! its why I'm so stuck on the Newport Pro. The only downside is that if you got lose hardware people are gonna hear it! I'm probably going to kick myself after handing this off... :o

at least I got another. :P

Don't know where mine came from originally, I found it used at a local dealer. It is a spruce top chrome hardware. Wasn't in the market, but saw it and had to have it. Glad I did. I swapped the phat cats for Darkbursts and love it.

It had phatcats? so this was a bigbied newport? or maybe a custom order Pro (which usually comes with seth lovers). how does the darkbursts compare on this particular beast?

Heh all,

Wanted to thank Buzzy for the guitar; he's great to deal with and as a huge bonus, overnighted the Newport to me!! Talk about service.

Now I also understand the buzz (hehe) on Newports. The Spruce top is the cat's meow. Open and airy, yet with a good punch. Don't know if I'll be gas-free, but am getting dang close.

I beleive mine was a custom order, but not sure. It did come with Phat Cats that I replaced with the DBs. I really like the Darkbursts. It's not what you would call a "warm" gutar, but it is very articulate and I don't know spanky? for lack of a better word. A really nice blues guitar. Oh and it sounds killer through a Fuchs / Two Rock $umble style amp. Too bad I'm too much of a hack to really play thoes amps.

Hmm I really need to get back in there and tidy up the wiring, you can see it through the F hole.

Just checking in from the woods.

This particular guitar happened because I had seen BB King and wanted a Hamer version of a Lucille. I ordered it and when it arrived realized that a Newport guy I am not. Thankfully, it was sold beore it arrived. Off it went.

It's a helluva guitar, though.

You mean to TJ? I almost bought it from him 2 years ago, but eventually declined and Buzzy stepped up to the plate. Kicked myself ever since. Couldn't pass it up a second time.

Hey Dave! Glad you like her! (and glad she arrived safe and sound).

Sending it overnight air might be overkill for a piece traveling 400 or so miles. But it does reduce the time the UPS guy has it in his mitts and also the amount of transfer points they have to toss it between piles. That spruce cap is really alive and you're going to find that you can being to ride it to the edge of feedback and really get those notes to sing. what are you playing it through?

Right now, a Hayseed 30 thru a 2x12 w/Weber Alnico Blue Dogs. Chimey and Crunchy! Haven't even tried it thru the EF-86 channel yet. I was wondering how well you can ride the feedback; glad to hear it!

I have a host of others that I haven't tried yet (Fuchs, Two Rock, Fargen, Dabeck, etc.). Am really looking forward to using it with a Trainwreck Express clone. Am assembling the parts, but at this rate, it's gonna be a couple months away. Expresses ride the wave between in control and out of control, and sounds like the Newport will be a great surfboard;)

well I've never tried it in a uber high volume setting and have heard that it may get out of control playing high-gain music. be sure to push it hard before getting out on stage to see what it'll do with the material you play! for me its been chimey and a little overdrive crunch. :P
