Citrus Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Have been somewhat of a fan, till I recently picked up the DVD of Live @ Montreaux - holy crap! The Messiah will come again - this alone worth the price - would make Roy proud!Parisienne Walkways - NICE!What kind of amp can you get on the cheap to help you get that tone and sustain??I know most of it is in his fingers, but wow!
Guest cruster Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Parisienne Walkways is my favorite Moore piece, even though I don't think it really does justice to his ability. I have a live CD thingy of his that I put on when I want to remember why I'm a UNIX admin for a living and not a musician.
kurtsstuff Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Ahh yes...I still got the blues ...wonderful song and way too much fun to play...I'm not 100% positive but I think Gary's a big fan of Soldano's??
luiss Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I like Gary Moore a lot and Parisienne Walkways in particular but I found that song reminds me another from anotother group I cant´t recall.
Guest JackButler Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Gary is a HUGE influence on me. Has been for a very long time.I've got a cassette boot of a show from the Marquee that just smokes!
BCR Greg Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 As much as I love Gary Moore, I can't help but cringe when I hear Parisienne Walkways due to it's incredible similarity to Santana's Europa.Sunavabitch can PLAY THAT GUITAR, though. I love that boy.
Brewmaster Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I'm a UNIX admin for a living and not a musician. You are a special breed. I was a DB2 DBA (AIX) for 4 years and I couldn't wait to get back to the mainframe (big iron) world. I tip my hat to you sir. Thread hijack over.
RobB Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 I've got the Montreux DVD, too. I'm a huge fan, though sometimes his over-the-top stuff gets to be a little much (but that's part of the fun, no?). "Messiah" is unbelievable. If you can find a copy of "Blues For Greeny" live (I've got a Japanese VHS. Thanks tombo!), you're in for some killer blues-rock playing.I think when Moore is 65 he'll be recognized as one of the blues greats...
tombo Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 You're welcome RobB!I love Gary Moore too. Especially "Corridors Of Power" and "We Want Moore" Live (RobB - are you interested in this CD???? - lemme know). I also dig all the 90's blues albums, but I just didn't understand the one where he's playing the 335 (awesome tone, weird choice of songs). What inquiring minds want to know is: what in the heck happened to Gary's face???

That would be the great fire of 72......all they had to combat the fire on Gary's face were ice picks.....it was either that or the acne??
Rocktuna Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 I've converted many a non believer with Live at Monsters of Rock.Shred Blues rules!Speaking of sounds like- A buddy of mine says Still Got the Blues sounds like the theme from MASH. I never noticed it before but now thats all I hear
