Punkavenger Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I'm learning to play "Moonage Daydream" ... Ziggy Stardust era Mick Ronson is some of my fav geetar sounds out thereMick played a 68 Les Paul Black Beauty with the finish stripped off Would it be possible to find a beat up 68 Les Paul that I could strip for say $2000 max?(say ... next summer)Am I crazy? Have these reached such astronomical heights as the earlier models?RIP Mick ... he was only 45 ... brings a tear to my eye, really
guitarzandstuff Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Seriously doubt you'd find a 68 in any condition for $2000...Look into a 68 reissue...
Punkavenger Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 Damn ... Maybe I could find a Samick to strip?
serial Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 You could still likely grab a later model Norlin or post-Norlin LPC. Sometimes a crap shoot with those, but you could find one that's a decent player and be off to the races (or back braces-summa those suckas is heavy).
Punkavenger Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 would that be a Epiphone from the 70's? what years ... ?? to ?? Should I just be looking for a Epiphone Black beauty ... old as possible? Thanks!
Dumo Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 You won't want to hear this but a buddy of mine who mostly plays bass scored a late 60's LPC fretless wonder in EX condition for $900 bucks. I think it had a refinished neck. I think it may have been sanded at one point. That's only one of the many deals this guy has scored over the last 15 years or so. His Dad was a flea market master and things seem to be genetic with him. If I were you, I would just score a used Edwards LPC off Ebay for $500 and sand until your hearts content. FWIW
serial Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 If you're looking to buy a Custom, check out an older USA. They can still be had under $2k. Less if you don't care about the finish. I know of a killer blue sparkle 3 pickup round these parts...
cmatthes Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Do NOT buy the Epi. POS. I agree that there are still some good deals and fine Norlin-era (70s/early 80s) LPs out there.
