I love reggae but don't have any cds except for some Bob Marley. What do you guys suggest for some wicked reggae?

Thanks,

Nick

Don't know if it's available on CD, but I suspect it is: Toots and The Maytals Live! The live take of Pressure Drop might be the baddest single cut of reggae I've ever heard.

Culture, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear and Augustus Pablo are some of my favorites.

Can't go wrong with Bob Marley, but get you some Third World, some Jimmy Cliff, or some Peter Tosh.

My brother was friends with Peter and spoke with him just before he was killed, incidentally.

I love reggae and dub music.

Some for the newbie:

Check out releases from Trojan records.

Here in europe they have released many

three CD box compilations with great old

stuff from Jamaica. These are UK releases

and can be found on www.amazon.co.uk

Or on ebay I guess...

Studio One is another reggae label that

has released some great compilations

with older stuff. Very good stuff.

Can be found also on www.amazon.co.uk

Lots of stuff with the famous duo Sly & Robbie.

They have played and produced tons of classic stuff.

Discography and other things to be found here:

Black Uhuru.

The nutty professor Scratch Lee Perry, who produced among

other artists lots of classic Marley stuff. There is a box

set that is supposed to be very good.

Peter Tosh is a necessity in a decent reggae collection.

The list goes on....

I'd recommend Don Carlos, Butch Helemano, Natural Vibrations, Inner Circle, and my favorite Steel Pulse (True Democracy, Earth Crisis, Handsworth Revolution).

I gave my reply based on the assumption that

you are looking for older type off reggae in

the Bob Marley vein?

There are tons of new artists from Jamaica that

are also very good. Check out Tanya Stephens,

Elephant Man, Capleton, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Cutty Ranks,

my personal favourites T.O.K. , Wayne Wonder, Buju Banton,

Sean Paul, etc I'm no expert but there is plenty of good music

with the Jah vibe, man.
