Fret Buzz

I have a '98 Phantom Custom that is having problems with fret buzz, and it's really driving me crazy. I've tried giving the neck a slight bow, making it straight, and slightly humped, but none have completely fixed the problem. They've just kind of moved where on the fretboard the buzz is the worst. It's only on the sixth string (maybe a few notes on the 5th).

Now, I've only been playing the guitar for about 4 years, so I'm fairy novice at a lot of things, but especially at setup. If anyone has tips or instructions on how to get the buzz gone, please help.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with the neck, not warped or twisted, you have to tweak until you get the right compromise between neck relief and height of the action. You may just need to raise the bass side of the bridge a tad.

Is it just my browser, or is the action a little high on Riffer's post?

raising the bridge on the bass side by itself will probably fix things if the higher strings are buzz free - it's likely not the neck relief.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, as far as putting heavier gauge strings on it, I already have 12s on it, so that might be hard. I also don't want to raise the bridge any more than I already have. The action on my cheapo Epiphone Les Paul is lower than on my Phantom and the Epiphone has no buzz.

If the neck were warped or twisted, is there anything I can do to fix that?

Buzzy Fretts drives me crazy too!

Especially when he plays the F**KIN' FLUTE!
