I must be the only lucky one here, as far as GC is concerned. I am sure that all the DC are guys remember Venneman's. The guy who manages GC in Fairfax used to work there, and is the right guy to know. Don't deal with the staff. Get to know the manager. I've had them order me a couple guitars. No issues.

I will say that the Ffx GC is light years better than the one in the old Veneman's location in Rockville. The ratio of teens:adults working there is far better too. It also never seems to be as crazy, at least when I've stopped in there.

has anyone elsed experience having to give your guitar to the staff there?

I went to check out some encelope filters and I brought my studio along so i knew how it would react with my guitar. Well as soon as I walk in the door the "greeter" lady says she has to write down the seriel # and blah blah woof woof. I sit the case on the counter open her up and the bitch with all her bling bling rings and a metal pen in her other hand picks it up. I was very uneasy. I say be careful with that. So I make it inside the story, already uneasy, but I am going to try some envelope filters. Talk to the "dude" in the pedals and strings and shit counter. I told him what I was looking for and he says I dont have any. I said ok how about an auto wah? He says ok I got one of those. Any way he sets it up in front of some amp while I get my guitar out of the case. He says let me see your guitar I have to set up the pedals before anyone can play them. Its store policy. I was pissed!

I like the suburban New Orleans one for the used gear, me and Cajun Boy have scored some great deals on stuff over the years. I pulled a newer Sheffield-loaded metal-front Peavey 4x12 in stupid clean condition from it just last week for $225 and that was before I applied a $70 credit the store owed me.

It is actually one of the better ones. I used to know the Mgr, but he moved on. Still go there for what I've always done; looking for used gear. Actually scored a Digitech 2120 Artist w/pedal board for $115. Go figure. Tried it out, didn't like it, and sold it for a substantial profit.

You should try being there from 12-3 on a Saturday; makes my head hurt even thinkin about it.

I like GC. There is no pressure--play all day, anything they've got, and they even have a listening booth. Lots and lots of choices, especially in used stuff, which is all I care about. And they will deal, sometimes insanely. Yes, they are loud and populated with noisemongers and clangers, but that is easily avoided, as has been noted, by going early while the wankers are in school or bed. It is a mistake to go to GC when they have some cele-promo going on, and it is wise to avoid the salesbots. I have had good luck with the managers, and I have met some really cool customers, as well. And they have a 30 day policy, which is huge.
