Hi... I'm planning on buying a hamer. I'm planning on buying one of the XT series... "value" series lol

I'm looking at typically playing metal but want to be able to play alllll types of music with the guitar. Do you think a Hamer Sunburst Archtop Flametop will suit my needs? and do you recommend the value guitars?

I heard hamer's weren't shredder guitars.... what do people mean by that?

I was looking at buying this.... what do you think

The imports are good guitars. Getting a used one can be a super deal. Changing some hardware makes them better. You can shred on any guitar.

You can shred on anything. If you are going to spend $450 on that import, for a few dollars more you should be able to pick up a good used American made Hamer. A lot of good ones in the $500 to $600 range.

You'll get a lot of good advice here, and a lot of it will sound the same, something like: "Hold out for a USA model", you can still get Diablos and Centauras for under $400. Any USA Hamer in playable condition will be a better choice than an import, -unless of course the import is stupid-dirt-cheap. A USA model Studio will be $800-ish, and it's well worth the extra $400. They hold their value really well too. That being said the imports are good guitars, but the USA's are great guitars.

I just sold a USA Diablo on eBay for $400 a coupla weeks ago. It was a shred machine.

USA Centauras are even more shreder friendly in my opinion. Again, in the $400 and usually under range.

Nothing wrong with the XT set-necks, nice guitars, but I'd say be cool and patient for a USA bolt-on because it's MUCH better.

Kashank, a "shredder" guitar is one like all the metal guys played in the mid 80's-- thin neck, whammy bar, and either a super-Strat body or a pointy body. Hamer made a bunch of them back then. If you can play any of those shred style licks at all, you can play them on virtually any solid body electric guitar. Randy Rhoads did it on a Les Paul. The Sunburst Archtop Flametop is a well made guitar.

Guitarseh is offering you a good deal, and you could sell that guitar here if you find out you do not like it. Right now I cannot afford to jump in, but I would like that guitar.
