cmatthes Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I see the same kind of response to hundreds of things on the Gear Page on a regular basis - often far worse than here. Harmony Central? I won't even waste my time there. Anything you post, you're going to get a ton of people for, against or both - that's just the way life is.I posted something on TGP last night about this very same thing. There were a few camps going back and forth about something being better than something else, and vice-versa...same old shit. Guess what? Don't ever expect anybody else to like what you like, feel the same way about a piece of gear or tone as you do, dig the same music you like, etc. We're all different. Nobody's right or wrong, just know what THEY like. It's the Internet. Get over it.FWIW, I think there are a lot of cool things about that cab. It may not be my thing (I'm too lowbrow when it comes to amps/cabs), but somebody put the thought and effort into making it for a particular purpose, so I think that's cool in itself. No big deal, dude.
SteveB Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 There are players and there are engineers and there are guys with a foot on either side of the fence. I used to do amateur astronomy for a hobby. We had people who spent their time looking at stars, and people who spent all their time at night building telescopes. Same thing.
thecajunboy Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 So it might be that this is a forum that longs for and revels in the past, and has limited interest in the new. Is this correct? I ask as I come to these boards to be exposed to and learn about new things, so perhaps this board is not for me.So you join a board, and within a coupla hours you make a first post ripping on a bunch of people you know little about. Smooth move.
Guest Meshuggah Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I say we let him post a photo (no Photoshops pleez) of himself doing the "BROOKSIE" with the guitar of his choice (Armstrongs includido) and then we all fogive him. Whatcha say boys? <crickets>
Steve Haynie Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 First post and already assuming the position of our moral leader! Thank you, wildblueyonder, we really needed that.
bobbymack Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Actually I think the guy makes some valid points, first post or not...
BCR Greg Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 wildblueyonder, get to know us before you judge us.This forum has a long history, and the vast majority of members have known each other a long time. We bust each others' balls on a daily basis. When and IF you learn the dynamics here, you will understand. Ripping us on your first post(and you "stumbled" here to boot!) isn't really showing any better behavior than you accuse us of.Welcome to the forum, be what you aspire to be, become part of our rather close family and we will bash your ass in a few years for making such a creatively flat entrance!
wildblueyonder Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Thx BCRGreg, Kiz, Darc, CMatthes, et al for your insights. I found them very constructive & helpful.I haven't made any judgments after a few days...I just made a few observations, asked a few questions, and then collected a bit of data from the responses to my post.I see now that this is a very tight collection of folks. What I mean by that is the relationships between members of the forum seem to go well beyond that of a typical forum. I also get the sense that many of the members here have been members for a long, long while, and probably will remain active members until they expire! So, in light of that I now understand better some of the posts that initially struck me as mean-spirited and closed minded.Maybe best said like this. I grew up in a large family with many brothers and sisters. If anyone from outside the family were able to see how we interacted with each other within our home on a day to day basis they would have thought we hated each other, yet nothing could have been further from the truth. This forum seems to have similar characteristics. Except this forum IS seen by all, at all times!Peace.
HSB0531 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Getting back to the original post......If you want to see something Really different, small, loud, lightweight, that has great tone, email me & I'll fill you in & tell you where to get it.Jim
