That's right. The Famous Volcanos made their way out to L.A. and straight into Echo Park for a gig. The openers were none other than The Dime Box Band, who I loved BTW. They have a great thing going with a blend of folk, rock n roll, gypsy and a little jug band thrown in. The guitar player did the entire set on a small Daisy Rock guitar and has some serious chops!

The Famous Volcanos had a lot of support for being an out of town band and were cheered along the whole way. This was a really cool set of Indie Pop that showed off the songwriting talent of the band. Hey, I bought a CD! Toni's drumming is killer.

It was cool to meet all of the band members and their friends. A pretty good HFC turnout, too.

Ted (Bluesbuster) and his lovely wife.

Bruce

Robbie

Toni

Dave

and Pam of course.

It was great hanging around with you guys!

Thanks guys! I just got home, and obviously had no internet access the whole weekend. :)

It was a great trip, and always fun to meet new (to me) HFCers. It was a blast hanging with PirateFlynn and Bluesbuster for a bit, and FV REALLY appreciates the support. More later, as I'm exhausted and off to bed...

Happy 900th post BruceM and Congrats to Flaming Volcanos on a cool gig in LA LA land! Cant wait to read and see more of the stories from the trip from everyone.

After getting in late last night I now realize that not taking the day off today was a big mistake!! A little groggy today but I wanted to say a huge HFC board thanks to Pam for her hospitality!! The whole weekend was beyond our expectations and I had never been to LA and we had the perfect balance of seeing the city, hanging out, playing music with a little sleep in there as well. My highlight was learning how to play the ukulele which I had never attempted before... I'm hooked!! I expect to have my own within the week. :) too bad Hamer doesn't make them!! It was great to meet Pirate and Bluesbuster (thanks for the gear again!!). Its always a blast to put the names with real people. I had an old high school friend who lives out there show up and she asked me how this was all possible (the gig, the band, the good karma)... I looked around and the only real answer I had was the HFC. The power of good people on the internet. I guess I should be thanking my good friend Hikarateboy on Wednesday when I see him... :P

Now where is the next stop... oh that's right Seattle...

I'm coming back to life. And reflecting. What a GREAT time in Los Angeles.

First, thanks to Pam for making this all happen. You know how much I love you and can't wait for the next time we rock out together.

Next, to the HFC...I've been on a whirlwind tour in the last six weeks, meeting up with HFCers in Chicago, Ardooie and Los Angeles...wait, I forgot Minneapolis...goes without saying (heh) that these cities are right up at the top of my "Most Happening Places On The Planet" list. This little internet board boggles my mind. I'm just sayin', all you lurkers (and I was one for 3 years before posting here) need to come out of the woodwork and start socializing. I have made lifetime friends all over the world off this board, and I intend to make many more before I'm done here.

Here's to my new LA friends: Ken & Kate, Ted & (I'm sorry, I don't remember your wife's name, even though we chatted for quite awhile). It was great to meet you all, and even better the support we got from you. I know (I hope) you'll make the trip to Mpls sometime in the near future and hang out with the local crazies.

And finally, to my band, Famous Volcanoes. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! This was such a band weekend. Pam let us crash and trash at her place, and it was perfect. It was one of those band-bonding-weekends that was a great blend of L.A. tourism, partying and nightlife. We picked up our new CD hours before departing for the airport and took off for the L.A. sun. (more on the CD in a later thread)

And finally, I had a few personal friends, relatively new to CA that showed up: Erica & Rick, Chris, Demetrius. It was great to see you all again, and "Ah'll be back!"

Enough, here's a few photos off my camera:

And thanks again to Pam for letting me use her blue cruise for posing purposes. :)

Here's one more. Famous Volcanoes, post-show, posing in front of our rental car, "The Great White Shark." Do we look happy? :P

The famous volcanoes are rock stars!!!

I told my (9 year old) kid that we had famous rock stars staying at the apartment, and he got all serious and said, "we should be very honored!" and guess what.. I am!

Thanks for coming out and bringing the noise - thanks for playing Green Van, my favorite song offa their cd (which everyone out here in HFC land oughtta buy - it's fan-friggin-tastic). And thanks for being wonderful and considerate guests - when you threw the tv out the second story window, you were very careful not to hit any innocent passersby. The guilty passersby..well, they were on their own, I reckon.

Bruce is absolutely right about the magic of the board - I do have many lifelong friends through here..but, Bruce, you're number one!!! Mucho mucho love to you!

Viva Olvera Street!

Oh and.. YEAH for the uke, Robb!!!
